  5. If its road legal, less than 1000cc 4cyl and they build enough production
bikes to homologate them, it should be possible. I can't see Ducati giving
    up on twins though.

It will be going into (limited) production, will it not?...How many bikes
are needed to be sold to qualify? Will they sell more than Petronas did?...

What _would_ be funny is if a privateer team raced one in WSBK ;-)

  10. Nope, the MotoGP "prototype" parts are allowed to move into production 3
years *after* they first appear as prototype bit (and are then still
    legal to race with).

  11. Yep, so long as they build at least 150 of them (75 before the
homologation inspection, and the other 75 within 6 months), and have
them available "worldwide", they'd get through first homologation.

(Second homologation, once they've decided then need to make some
modifications, is a little more difficult, depending on how many bike
the manufacturer builds in a year they'll need to make either 500, 250,
    or 150 more bikes...)

I suspect that unless Ducati get their way with their proposed 1200cc
twin rule in WSBK, they'll homologate these instead. The current rumours
are that the only way Ducati can keep up with the current 4 cylinder
Japanese litrebikes is by tuning the 999s up so far they only get 1000km
out of a set of _engine cases!_ It's speculated that the motors are
costing about 10,000 UK pounds to rebuild, and they're needing to
rebuild one every race meeting. I suspect it would be cheaper to race a
$80k or so Desmosedici and _not_ have to spend almost $25k per meeting
rebuilding it than stick with the current 999s under the current rules.

What would you do with 4 1 litre japanese bikes that you couldn't do with 1?

    I take it you didn't understand the question;
he asked "Would this make 'em legal in SBK"?

    I can't see a reason they wouldn't be eligible.

Yep; if that's what you wanted certainly.
Same as you could buy 4 RX7s for the price of a Ferrari.
You, like me, would have about an equal chance of owning both.
