Following fettling, I took the Wing on a clockwise orbit of East
    Anglia this afternoon.

It was too cold for jeans and trainers. I wish I'd known.

    The battery didn't fail.

The clonking's gone. I ended up drilling and bolting the fresh air
tubes in place, under the headlamp.

It handles really quite well, now. As it should, considering it has
better suspension components than when it was first built.

That un-round rear tyre's a pain though: litereally. I've got pins and
needles in my hands, and I've only done 310 miles today.

I'm gona sling some tyre weld in, to see if it holds its pressure (it
*is* round with 45psi in it), otherwise it's in the bin with it.

It's only really apparent at low speeds, thoguh I'm blaming it for the
    p&n anyway.

Forks: do other bits wear, other than seals and springs? It's got new
springs, the seals are perfect, if a little old, yet they still don't
    feel "right" iyswim.

Is there not some kind of bush contraption in their somewhere?

It feels, and it's a bit tenuous, as if the forks are "bending" about
    halfway down.

The headraces are fine, and the pinch-bolts *are* done up.

I took Stephs GSX out for a bit of a test run. Seems to have a bit of a
high end misfire. Oh well that's next Sunday booked up then.
Yep, at the bottom of the fork tube. Easy enough to replace one you've
    got the forks apart.

    Bushes wear.[/QUOTE]

I thought so. (ta to Chris, also)

    It says 'ere:

"replace the bushings if the Teflon coating is worn sufficient to
reveal copper on more than 3/4 of the surface."

    Deep joy.

Looks like the upper bushes are around £2.50 each, so at least it's
    not a bank breaker.

I suppose I might as well do the seals while they're apart.

Your wording about the upper bushings sound ominous to
me. When I did the forks on my XT, the top bushes were
available and affordable. Unfortunately the bottom bushes
do wear too. In the Yamaha parts list they were "fork
stanchions, complete" and a bit pricey.
Luckily, Race-Tech happened to have some that fitted.

  7. I parsed this as "front fork-arse"

Same here about the bottom bushes for the FZR. I'll have to chat with
those people to see what they can do for me.

Nice, but only as an emergency fix. As SD stated earlier, the
bushings are Teflon coated. Once the coating is worn trough,
the wear on the stanchions and sliders accelerates. Probably
the Teflon is also used to minimise friction, making the forks
better at absorbing small bumps, making the ride less tiring.

I was thinking more about how your repair would work out on
a GW or other fork with coated bushings.
