That's going to be expensive.

All of a sudden I picked up a vibration from the engine of my Gixxer,
and by the time I got it to the dealer it had got worse.

To cut a long story short:
The clutch basket disintegrated and threw bits into the engine, the
engine protested by damaging the crank and loads of other bits. The
engine is knackered. It would cost a small fortune to rebuild so I'm
now looking for a good 2nd hand engine.

The bike is 3 years old and done 17,000 miles.

The manager at the dealers said "wheelies don't help either".

Ho hum. I'm not a happy bunny.

This is *exactly* what happened to my old GSX-R750Y - and at about the same
    mileage too.

The first dealer I took it to did a crap job and didn't flush out all the
bits when they replaced the head which then caused me further gearbox
    problems.

Sorry to hear you've had the problem too - but I'm surprised as I thought it
was unique to the early 750s (i.e. the first of the new shape, circa 2000)

There was some info about the problem (i.r.o. 750s) on www.gixxer.com a
    while back.

    Bugger.

I'd write to Suzuki and see if you can persuade them to make a good-will
payment towards the cost of fixing/replacing the engine.

And out of warranty, one assumes? Mine dew, you'd probably have
invalidated it anyway with you K&N, end can and restrictor-bypass
    mods...
    I'll be all right then:)
I see lots of phone calls to breakers. Try and get a K3 motor for it.

    Indeed. Ouch.
Absolutely. A letter will only cost a few minutes of your time, but
    may yield enormous benefits.

Considering you mentioned you had already had a recall for clutch basket is
there no chance of Mr Suzuki sorting this out?

    ouch.
Could you claim sale of goods act? I'd expect a bike to last a lot
longer than that. Especially with such a model rider as yourself onboard.
Strongly worded begging letter to suzuki perhaps?

    Because it's more powerful?
Oh. Surprises me, that. I didn't think they'd modded the frame between
the K2 and K3, but I'll take your (obviously much better informed)
    word for it.

That's what I was going to say!
I'm tempting fate here ... my CBR has done 68,500 and the only stuff
outside routine servicing has been a new rear shock (43K), new cush
drive rubbers (50K), rear wheel bearings (57K), 2 headlight bulbs and
    one fuse.

A safer bet would be to ask JP to look out for a fre#^& cheap
one turning up in his trolley.

After a couple of hours on the SP1 it feels like it, but nope, numerous
    250's, 400's, 500, 550, 750, Firestorms, Blades and latterly the SP1.

  20. Mr Suzuki's plasticene components stike again.

They make a bike capable of severe abuse, but only for limited values
    of severe.
