That'll be a non-repairable tyre then

2-3 inch screw going through both the treaded part _and_ the
sidewall. And of course that BT020 had done only 4k...

Ah well, I don't think Ultraseal or similar would've fixed
*that*. TBH, with damage like that to a tyre I'd want to know anyway.

Well no, any sidewall damage it a write off natch. It probably would not
have deflated though, which may or may not be a benefit.

TBH it only deflated overnight and I'm glad it did, because otherwise
muppet here would have ridden the bike to work the next morning. And
*that* would've been a spectacularly bad idea in my book.

We're talking Pan Euro here. It's about half worn, if that.

    <sniffs bait>
I have a quick look round. Sight test for tyre damage/pressure, oil leakage,
bits hanging off, lights & brake check.

I don't think it was bait.

I don't do any of that. I check the oil and coolant level daily (when I
get off the bike 'cos it's light by then) but that's about it really.

Apart from that er... I service it every 5,000 miles and get the tyre
pressures checked about once every 10 or so k miles.

Neither did I but it was worth checking
Well I don't get down on my knees and spin the tyres around or anything like
that, I do a 15 second look around just as the bike is sitting but I'd see
anything major. I let bikes warm up for a minute before riding so there is
    always time.

BTW did you see my post/email about Altbergs

This is UKRM. How many of us would pass a sanity check at all, let
    alone in the morning?

Oh, and no, I don't inspect my bike tyres for foreign objects in the
middle of the fucking night when I have to be at work for 6am.

    I suppose it's a habit that started with a Ducati 250 and a T120 Triton TBH.

Absolutely. As I ride away I am likely to notice if a wheel is
    missing.

In the dim and distant past before the millionth mini was even a remote
    possibility my Dad had one.

He left it in Benfleet Station car park, went to work, came home, got in
the car. started it and bang crunch it fell off the 4 piles of assorted
cans and bricks that were where the fancy wheels used to be.

Plod said it happened a lot and there was bugger all they were going to
do about it. At least they were honest back then.

Mine usually consists of noticing that it seems a bit hard work to wheel
out of the garage; realising the rear brake has seized again; deciding
that it'll work itself free in a mile or so.

Or maybe making a mental note to give it a once over when I have more time.
