That was interesting...

  1. From the Dept. Of Things That Make You Go Hmmm...

Putzing around in the workshop, sorting out the electrickery[1] I
snipped a wire, then mentally traced the circuit[2]. "Odd" I thought,
"That should have hurt". On account of it should have been live.

Subsequent investigation revealed a broken wire in a junction box...

<nods to Guardian Angel> Cheers, mate!

[1] Obviously in a very minor way that does not require certification at
    all. Oh no. Not me.
[2] I fully acknowledge that this was not the optimum order for these
    actions.

Heh. crawling about in the roof space earlier next to the attic room, I was
letting the rockwool in between the joists using a breadknife when I met thet
plastic insulation type of resistance to progress. Fortunately, it was the
neutral side of the flat twin and earth...

My dad was doing some work at Fazakerley Hospital once, he turned the
electrickery box to 'off' as he had to do some work. Whatever it was
he was doing required a screwdriver to initially be applied - one would
    assume to unscrew a screw.

The only problem was that the electrickery person who had installed the
box hadn't done the job properly and, despite the junction box being
'off', it was still very much on.

The resulting power surge through the screwdriver made a nice hole in
his hand (that eventually healed) and problems with his left arm
(tingling sensations and such-like) until he died.

Come to think of it, he was never actually very well after that period
    in time.

  7. I feckin' haven't.

I did mix quick-drying cement in the bath, once, though. Not the
cleverest DIY thing I've ever done.

But he is a good cook though, so that makes up for his DIY disasters.

Hmm, I remember helping a mate settle into his first house. He was
(and still is) a complete DIY numpty. I said it would be easy to run a
phone wire up to the study and he was very impressed. So I drilled a
little hole into the top stair to pull a wire through - and met
unexpected resistance. Took a look, and the drill had neatly split the
ring main cable, passing between the red and black, taking the plastic
off the black one. Phew. I plastered it with insulation tape, put it
all back, drilled my little hole in a different place. Never told my
mate. He still lives there, still doesn't know.
