That was a little nerve-racking

Heh. Sure the Commando engine had been around for at least 30 years
in one size or another, but the 750 Commando was a "new bike" (OK
warmed over Atlas) in 1967. 'Owever, the WUN Notrun dates from 73 and
the Morini dates from 76 so they are almost contemporaries, by way of
    build date, if not ethos.

The Morini looks like what it is - a handbuilt bike derived from the
racing expertise of the Morini factory while the Notrun is an
    antediluvean bodge up.

    </Brum accent> - "By Eck, our bike's getting a bit outdated. Better
bore it out a bit and strap some more pig iron to the frame so it
    don't leap through the tank".

When I was rewiring it, I couldn't find the connector block that joins
the main loom to the headlight loom in the kit of parts from Norvil.
It was a sort of rubber thing with about 10 connectors in it. Rang
Norvil and got put onto Reg (or something), their leccy man, a
veteran of the Norton Factory -
AW: I havn't got this big connector block in the parts you sent me
Reg: No, you wouldn't have. That alwasy used to wear a bit and then
short out. Having a fire under the petrol tanks not a great idea so
we don't supply them, Just get a load of single connectors and use
    them.

Bad electrics, so even more similar to the Morini!

Indeed. Production engineering wasn't something apparently given high
priority at the Nortin factory. Ask me about the horn.....

That said, a sunny day on a big, torquey Norton with the exhausts
making that *fantastic* noise is a sensory feast.

Where does the Guzzi 850-Tx series fit in this...

Not the ones I've got matey :>)
I tend to keep my tools *forever*. I've still got the handtools my
grandfather left me from his apprenticeship at Sturmey Archer.
I still have to work out what one or two of them actually _do_!

    In pride of place.
Now ask me about the Yam TX750 and how that could ever have happened if
accountants had really ruled the factory .

Neither are the ones I have but if anyone's considering "buying British"
    they might want to know.

I have many tools like that.

Heh. It is an established fact that at the very beginning of the
Commando production line, there was a horn. They then started bolting
bits to it until they had a completed motorcycle.

Disassembly is the reverse of assembly...

It's been a challenge. The DVD claims that all bushes are supplied to
    final size. That's *mostly* true.

However, the first gear bush was a good 10 thou undersize on the ID.

Luckily a little rummaging scared up a decent 11/64" reamer that dealt
    with the problem very nicely.

Now, if someone could just tell me where I put the fucking sprocket nut,
I could get the primary back on and get it all buttoned up.
Ask nicely and I might let you have a go.

  17. This sounds a bit like BMW's habit of building a motorcycle around its
clutch. Why not just move the horn to somewhere more accessible???

When I sold the Notrun to WUN, I had a Fiamm mounted (temporarily) on
the headlight brackets as it wouldn't fit into the area around the
battery. I'd imagine WUB will be moving it to somewhere less
    obtrusive.

They only do that after they've welded the rear subframe together around the
    battery.

Like GL12's being built around the alternator, or the Fifteen being
    built around the hydraulic lines?
