That old tyre question again

    Sprint ST, always upright never knee down, currently from new with 5k
    miles Bridgestone which are ok, am going to change both tyres but what
    do you recommend, Road Pilot 2 seem to have good reviews?, any others
    here people would care to comment on?

    This is the one for sale, right?

    Would it not be better to sell as is, and drop the price a bit to
    reflect the fact that it needs new tyres, thus allowing whoever buys it
    to put what they want onto it?

    Well i suppose so but rather than get 3 points per tyre while i am
    riding it i may as well put new tyres on and save the hassle, also
    should there be someone interested in it then they wont have to buy new
    tyres themselves, coz there only going to grit there teeth and say
    "needs new tyres mate".

    If I was buying a sport-tourer I'd be happy to see Conti Road Attacks on
    it. However, it only seems to be BMW riders who accept Continental as a top
    motorcycle brand as they are often fitted as OE by the factory.

    Maxxis Supermaxx.

    I've got them on the KTM and they've been absolutely fine, wet or dry.

    Crucially, they're seriously cheap - FWR want 135 quid for a set,
    compared to 209 for a set of Pilot Road 2s.

    OK, the KTM's not quite the same weight or power as a Sprint but
    whatever, it's got two wheels and an engine and you're looking at
    flogging the bike anyway so cheap hoops make sense.

    If you're wary of the cheaper option, then the aforementioned Road 2s
    were absolutely fine when I used them on the gixer and seemed to be
    lasting well til I picked up a nail.

  7. They are also quite popular with riders in merkania of custom type bikes.

    I've got Avon Storm Ultra's on mine. I don't ride around like a club
    racer (ffs it's a sprint) but they haven't caused me any concern; wet or
    dry.

    I've just put Storm 2's in my 1150LT.
    The rear still had about 1000( at a real push) but had significantly
    squared doing a round trip to the Highlands, it had done 7,500. The
    front was utterly shagged but had done 9000.

    What I meant was Bridgestones are ok, not the actual fucking tyre on
    the back.

    You got at least one reply asking why you didn't just sell it as is,
    so the new buyer could fit his tyre of choice. Obviously if you had
    gotten the message across that they NEEDED to be replaced and they
    were not OK, rather than just wanting to replace them, the confusion
    might have been avoided.

    I'm not nitpicking, just trying to point out for your benefit that
    the confusion arose because you gave the impression the tyres were
    OK, in fact, you explicitly said they were OK. We can't read minds...

    Now do you understand my comment?

  13. M&P still seem to have that offer on for the original Pilot Roads
    (~140 quid). They got mixed reviews when Champ posted the link. I'm
    very tempted but I do loads of motorway miles and would prefer a dual
    compound for the upright durability and grip for the times I do get to
    lean over.

    These are my thoughts as well, of the 5k miles i have done so far I
    reckon 4.9k of them have been stright upright so could do with a
    concrete middle of the tyre and sticky stuff on the rest.

  15. Well the M&P deal sounds good, I'd just like some info on longevity.
    The BT021s I've got now have been great but I think I'd be looking at
    190ish for those. Have you made a decision yet?

    I am going for the Bridgestone 023 tyres with the GT version for the
    rear. Round and Black do them for £197 plus £6.50 postage.

  17. Well I took a chance with M&P, sub-150 delivered. It could prove to be
    false economy but we'll see how they go. I may have to take the more
    rural route to work to limit the squaring.
