Remember? One lap, and the winner gets 30 grand. Lozzo knows him,
    iirc.

Anyone got a URL, because google hates me.

I don't want to have a go, btw, I want to send the link to a mate.

It was Paul Lewis, former GP racer, who now runs a Harley dealership.
The bet is, he's on a harley, which can be modified any way he likes
with parts from the Harley catalogue. You can ride anything you like.
However, you must not have ever held a race license.

I notice that his bet specifies that the race will be on cold tyres. Is
that more of a psychological advantage for him or an actual real physical
    one?

    1, 2, 3, 4...

To be honest I'm not sure - he's done 55sec lap on an electra glide
    according to the article.

    I'd also suspect the following:
    * The stock suspension has sufficient adjustment to make it
semi-suitable for a track session, and one lap won't overheat it (2
    laps might though).
    * Enough bodywork can be removed and parts exchanged with harley racing
items to give more ground clearance.
    * There's sufficient parts in the catalogue to give a nice performance
    hike.
    * He's going to get any parts cheap, and won't be that fussed about the
cost as this is pretty good publicity anyway. He loses and it shows he
believes in the bikes to put money up and "they're not for racing
anyway". He wins and harleys are R1 beaters.

Chuck in an ex-top-flight racer and it doesn't seem such a walkover. I
suspect that one lap is do-able on just about any bike, whereas a
sportsbike will do better at punting in quick lap after quick lap.
He's taking that advantage away by specifying one lap from cold. I
think the clues are in the article - the bits they state as obvious are
exactly what I think won't be the case on the day.

I wonder if a slightly hopped up rocket 3 might work?

Um, but wasn't he fairly famous for crashing quite a bit IIRC.

You failed to answer my question (that I'd already answered myself).

Go to the back of the class, until you're sorry.

I know we all slag off Harley's but is it at all realistic that he'll
win or lose? After all, highly modified Harleys are are raced in the
States and apart from the engine they look pretty much like sports
    bikes.

If he's a decent enough rider, someone might get a shock.

D'you reckon some of those Avon road-legal wets would heat up
sufficiently quickly that you wouldn't really be using cold tyres for
    the lap?

Not that I'm volunteering, of course.

Might have a better chance on the T3, but I'd be giving away a lot of
cubes even then. A ducati M900 would prolly be the thing for this.

You didn't think I was going to risk slinging my own bike down the tarmac
    on cold tyres did you??
