The Morini now has a baffle in its amplifier, sorry, silencer. It's
still loud but not LOUD! I fired it up to let JB appreciate for himself
the volume, and he grunted and said his Guzzi was noisier.

    Boggle.

Cynic. It doesn't need them. Well, not really.

Of course not. Just ask Tog's neighbour.
Sweet sound though. Probably be *superb* at about 7krpm+.

I did speak (grunt) the truth. Ask Bear. I took him for a spin on it when he
came down here for me to do his 740's suspension and brakes. He was
    'amused'.
If I had my head as close to my trike's 'silencers' (and I do use that term
very, *very* loosely) as I did to the Morini's today, I would probably have
    had internal bleeding.
SO says cheers for the honey. Luverly stuff.

If you get stuck, my friend in Sutton (the electronics engineer) may be able
to repair the one you have (you did say you've got one?)

  8. Naw, I've got an aftermarket one which almost certainly works, but looks
gash. According to the Morini-isti, the OE electronic one fails
frequently and fiddling is strongly discouraged because ofthe potential
effects on Morini's unique electronic ignition system.

  9. sounds a bit like the cigar ones on the SOBoxer - intended I belive for a
beezer A65, and a nice big hole right through the middle.

*ding* (although custom made s/s ones :>)
The Guzzi does run much, much better on fairly open pipes and as long as you
don't take piss around town, they're not _too_ obnoxious on the noise level.

    Certainly my experience.

Might not be obnoxious but bloody loud on the open 'cheese grater' type
    Contis it's got.

I always liked the sound of the less restrictive Contis. Stick in a high
gear and bimble around town at about 1500rpm, and all is fairly tame on the
noise front if you're not too vicious with the throttle. However, get out of
town and find some room, really wind it on at about 5500-6500rpm and all
hell breaks loose (along with your fillings).
I really can't abide an oversilenced big twin.

  14. If you mean the gash one would work without buggering the pixies, you
could re-case it in the original shell and dial, if analogue.

Another option is a totally seperate pickup off the HT lead(s) to
trigger a replacement, avoiding touching the Morini's ign sys at all.

Blimey, I might have a working tach yet.

Thinking about it, this is how the rev counter on my spiffy Gunson
Professional strobe timing light works. It just clips to the HT lead and
    takes everything from that.
