Exams, I'd forgotten what sitting in a cold sports hall realizing that
you can't think of a thing was like. :)

Still, now my exams are done and I've got a few days to mellow out.

Geometry, mathematics and science. I'm now half way through the
course... then, with a little luck, later, I'll be on year 1 of my
    degree.

I don't _think_ I've done all that bad, considering the last time I did
this sort of thing was in 1987.

Thank you. Proof will be if I've passed or not, and I think I'll have it
    in a couple of weeks.
I don't think I would be able to get on with a part time course. It's
easier when you are able to do something full time, and not have a
family or anything else to worry about.

Mrs WUN is doing a part-time (1 day a week) Human Resources course
because she fancies a career change (from retail management). She's
doing brilliantly (straight 'Merits' with one assignment to go) and I am
so proud of her. Mostly because she was *so* convinced it would be
    beyond here before she started.

That's excellent. To have tried at all is good, to have tried and won is
    even better.

I started a short OU course at the end of last year - mainly as an
experiemnt, to see if I could still do the education thing - and it's very
difficult to find the time for it. It's not that it takes a lot of
effort, or that I don't have the spare time, but that I've got into
habits, patterns of how I spend my time, and it's taking a bit more
discipline than I hoped to do the work rather than whatever I'm used to.

This in on my agenda for 2006. Don't really know how I'm going to find
    the time, yet.

I considered doing a short course just to give myself something to do
instead of sitting in hotel bars drinking beer or sitting in a room
watching tv 4 evenings a week but the reality is that I'm too lazy.

Does that mean that I can't do an OU course then? I haven't got a
    haunted fishtank.

And I'm not getting one either.

IME, you just do. Your situation is different to mine, and I know that
you do rather a lot of hours in work, but I found that the time just
    seemed to be available.

I did both my bachelors and masters degrees part time, and I'm
currently working on a way of doing a Ph.D. part time. If you want to
do it, finding the time need not be a problem.

Of course, I didn't have a life during this period.

    Yoda. :)

The thing is, that sometimes do or do not is too much of an outcome.
Sometimes things need to be broken down in to a more basic level than
that. It's ok if you're confident enough about the task in hand, but
that binary approach isn't for everyone me ol' muka'.

I hope so. Taking the plunge (and weighing out the cash) will help
    focus the mind, ideally.
The other trouble is that I lack discipline.
I was keen on the idea of a "life" being part of my existence, following
    my next big decision.

Says the man who will happily work for 13 hours a day. If you can do
that for your employer how much more should you be able to carve out
    time for yourself?!
And that decision might be what? Coming home?

True enough, although I was lucky enough to be funded by my employers
    through both of my courses.
Heh, me too. But I can also be very stubborn, as I suspect you can. If
you want to do it and can maintain interest in it then you'll do fine.
It's the last part that can be the killer, mind.
I've no doubt it can be done, I certainly intend to try and continue
having a life whilst pursuing my next academic adventure.

Hey! Good point - I hadn't thought of it like that.

A 'wood for the trees" moment.
Oh, no. Just generally: what to do next.

Careful choice of course would be an idea (aka "procrastination before
    booking")
    Good luck!

Yes, I was trying to be funny. Humor isn't in the genes I'm afraid. I've
been told before there's a lot of grey between the 1 and 0 - I'm still
    looking for it...
