Can anyone recommend a decent tent to take touring on bike?

I want something for under £100, but hopefully something that wont just fall
to pieces. Oh, and it needs to be easy to put up.

Also, are all tents waterproof, or am I presuming a little much there?

    TIA

  2. Size? Do you want to be a little camp or a big one?

Millets usually have offers, as do Blacks.

Just take your credit card and a hotel guide - much better idea.

Hotels are for people who want to stay near "civilisation". :)

Yupp, where 'civilisation' includes a clean bed, hot running water,
restaurant and bar. Note that this doesn't preclude enjoying the
countryside, just doing so after a proper breakfast.

I bought a 1-man tent in the xmas sales for 65 quid from Millets. It's a
Coleman Viper, weighs 2kg and fits in my tankbag. Can't comment on how
good it is cos it's been too cold to try it out.

The tents you can buy at Milletts and similar type shops between about
£50.00 and £100.00 should be fine for your needs. I bought one for £59.00
about five years ago from milletts and its performed pretty well so far.
Zips often go first, but if you look after the tent it should give many
    years of service.

Make sure any tent you buy has a sewn in ground sheet and a flysheet (the
bit that seperates the inner tent from the world outside. Mine started to
let small drops of water through last year after a heavy downpoor which
lasted about 24 hours You can reproof the flysheet by putting it in your
washing machine with the contents of a bottle of Nixwax.

Just remember to make sure you dry the tent properly before you put it away
at the end of your trip.

"Camping is for rich git"? No, somehow that doesn't seem to work.

Seriously, you can still find B&Bs (Chambres d'Hôte) in most parts of
France for about twenty quid a night, so the saving in taking a tent
is not so much. Plus if you don't you can bring more wine back with
you, which must be an important factor for you overtaxed UK drinkers.

  19. I bought a Vango Gamma 250 for £50 on-line (inc postage).

2-man, well made - easy to put up tunnel tent.
One advantage is that it packs down fairly small,
as the poles fold into small lengths.

As it is a tunnel tent, it is a bit noisy in strong winds.

    Cue curry-type jokes.
