any recommendations for decent tents to carry on a bike?

I have a cheap Eurohike 1person tent already, but it is really fucking
too small - it's more like a canvas coffin than something you'd really
want to spend any time in.

I did spy a Coleman CMX Phad X3 in Blacks which is a bloody big tent
considering the size of the packaging, but at £150 it's a little
    steep.

    I use a Vango Alpha 300.

    tent-2009.aspx

It's big enough for four people to sit in and talk bollocks all night,
quick to erect, fits across the back of a bike and is very reasonably
priced. Does a good job of keeping torrential rain out too.

I bought one of these last year for a tour around Scotland...

    http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/tents/vango-banshee-200-mountain-tent/CORETBACBANSHE2

Size and weight was perfect, however, it's an inner-first pitch which
makes is a bit shit when it's raining. And the inner is mesh, so it's
not very warm. Once up, it's fine even in heavy rain and has enough
room for me, a rucksack and a tank bag inside, plus a little porch to
    stick the boots in.

If you like, you can have mine for £35. It's only been used once (5
days) for that tour and is in perfect nick. I want to replace it with
one that pitches outer first, probably this...

    don't care about warmth.
thanks, but it still looks too small for what I want - if I do replace
the current tent, I want something pretty large - don't care about
weight, as it's only to be used carried on the motorbike.
£280 for a tiny tent. I presume you want this because it's light to
carry when you're on your push-bike?

No, for walking. I'm going Munro-bagging in September instead of the
Alps-Clique Run and I'll be doing 3 2-day walks. So it needs to be
    light.

Plus when it is on the bike, I want something small.

Ok - makes sense. Well, wanting a light tent makes sense. Walking up
mountains in Scotland during midge season doesn't make any sense at
    all ;-)

Does it come with solid gold poles?

    a) I don't want to spend that much
    b) I don't need the height
    c) "Packed size 78 x 20 x 20 cm" is a little large to carry on a
    'tard.

    I have a Khyam 'Biker'.

Excellent quality tent, put it up in a few miutes, the poles are
integral, the inner and outer tent is all in one piece.

Got a big porch/vestibule to store stuff in and the sleeping compartment
    is a fair size too.

On the mountains it's fine, it's down in the glens that the midges get
you. My wild camps will be up on the hills. I'll be up the north
west coast anyway I think, not so bad up there.

Ah - well, as I'm sure you're aware, it'll probably rain most days in
September in the NW of Scotia.

I have a brilliant little Halfords 2-man one. Cost £15 in the sale.
It's brilliantly waterproof (got caught in monsoon like storm in the
South of France and stayed dry whilst my more expensively tented
camping buddy got drenched) and is actually lighter than the "super
light" one Blacks are asking about £370 for! A double inflatable
mattress fits inside exactly, to give you an indication of size. Don't
know if they still sell them.

Did you see the bit in my original response about my tent being good
    in heavy rain?

I've absolutely no idea what tent you had.

After some research, I'll either go for Ogden's suggestion or a Gelert
    Tornado 3.

I've just bought a new tent from Argos, of all places. Checked out
their four-man tents, checked out the Millets offerings (which were
rather pricier), went into Argos and selected one for £50, only to be
told it was out of stock.

"But we've got these special offers on tents at the moment," said the
bint behind the counter, as she produced a leaflet. Stone me, one of
those double two-man things, with a sort of vestibule in between the
two sleeping areas, and a porch-on-sticks on one side, and half price
at £39. It packs up only slightly bigger than my two-man igloo thingy
and weighs 10kg, which is fine for a bike. It's going to Chimay.

So hie you to your local Argos, my son.
