Decided to take it on the 40-mile run to work today. Coo, it's way
faster than the XT600E. It'll hold 90 if you want, though a
comfortable cruise is 75-80, or 5-10mph faster than the 600. It will
even hold 90 if you want, though that seems unkind. It's redlined at
7k, which would be about 110 indicated. The 600 didn't have a rev
counter, so I've no idea how that compares.

Fairing bodes well for the Elefant. Screen could be a touch higher.
Googling for an aftermarket taller screen doesn't throw up much:
Powerbronze say they do one, but the picture that accompanies the
product details shows a TDM900. Sigh.

Brakes felt fine around town: from speed they seem to lack bite, but
are probably more than enough to overwhelm the tyres, so wtf.

Suspension seems firmer than that of the 600. Handling's better, too,
and there's none of the 600's feeling that it's on the brink of a
    weave at 80+.

Might be a keeper, this one, assuming I don't wreck it completely at
    the Elefant.

Electric starter works fine and there's no kickstart. A brand new
battery might be a good idea before the Elefant...

    Coo. 5 - 10mph faster everywhere. Bonus.
Yes, I can see that. Nige always says that just before he outs a
bike, too. You are his dad, aren't you?

    Grumblegrumblegrumble....

Well, yeah, I know what you mean. I do keep some bikes for years,
rather than months or even weeks or days. The Tenere is a brilliant
medium-speed commuter and town bike. I dunno. I just like it because
    it's fun to ride.
