Temple Police Department Motorcycle Officer Down

    Nov. 21 - The Temple Police Department has lost an officer. Officer
    James O'Brien, 38, was killed after an accident Friday afternoon near Temple
    High School at 31st Street and Calhoun.


    Lt. Edward Best with the police department said O'Brien was on his
    motorcycle and apparently didn't see the Ford Explorer stopped in front of
    him. The officer crashed into the back of the SUV.

    Lt. Best said O'Brien sustained severe head injuries and died at the
    scene. No charges were filed.

    O'Brien was a 7-year veteran of the Temple Police Department and
    leaves behind two small children.
