Just get a cheap router. No hassles then and far more secure. ~£10-£15 these
    days.
Item number: 320143111709something like this (assuming you're on ADSL)

Same cable that used to connect the somewhat flooded tower to either
of the two laptops and that worked fine?

It connects to both the network connectors I really dont know what it
    is called.

When I click the repair button it just comes up with unable to renew
    your IP?

  6. Main thing is to set the second laptop -- the one without the BB
modem -- as a standard "I connect to the network by asking for a DHCP
address", so you can then take it to work and plug into the net there and
not have to change a thing. Then on the machine with the modem use the
Wizard to set it up (IIRC, I haven't done this for a while) as "I connect
to the internet and every other bugger connects through me!" Then that
laptop hands out DHCP addresses and does the NAT thingy automagically.
Worked fine for me for a couple of years with an Alcatel USB modem on my
old laptop and my work laptop plugged into it, Brunel, or CERN depending
    where I was.
