    Not much choice for veggies.[1]

[1] I'm not but current SO is (& previous SO was too) so I
tend to look out for things like that these days.

CT emerged from their own little world to say
I love going into restaurants in France, Italy, and especially
Austria/Germany, with vegetarians. The way they are viewed as if they are
an alien species is fucking brilliant.

  4. That does look rather nice. The menu provides a good choice.

  5. I fully understand what you're saying but where did anyone say this
sponsorship was compulsory? If people want to get together to raise some
cash in addition to anything else they may offer by way of help who
cares? Isn't it down to each individual how they spend their cash - be
it on themselves, their families and friends or giving it away to help
    whoever they chose?

Anything that the team gets by way of cash or hands on support is
obviously an extra to what they themselves expected to fund.
As someone who has directly sponsored team ukrm I gave the cash to help
out in a way that I could. I'm useless in terms of spannering and there
was no way in which I could provide the time to offer other help at each
of the rounds. I didn't want anything marked up on the bike to recognise
my contribution although that option was theoretically available. No one
forced me to put my hand in my pocket - Mr Champion was duly shocked
when I gave him the cheque.
or give some cash to team ukrm if you want to.
    have a pleasant swim.

I had send a paypal transfer to petrolcan for the t-shirt thingy. When
it went TU I asked him to donate it to Team UKRM (this was before
Jackie's request BTW) as it would be a pain in the arse to have him send
    it back.

So, take it anyway. Buy the gang a pint on me then.

    nah, this should be expensible.
heh. I was taken out for lunch to Singapura in Lime Burner Lane last
week - never mind the starter prices - the rice and noodle side-dishes
    start at about 8.50ukp...

it's very nice indeed, actually, and the staff are wonderfully
    attentive without seeming overly obsequious.

  10. So why all the words and seeming disagreement?
You're on a permanent holiday. You don't have a requirement for possible
    sponsorship.
Simply that the riders, from what I understand, don't *expect* ukrm to
provide anything. They have tried to secure normal commercial
sponsorship but that's been limited as far as I know. Therefore the
baseline is that they fund their riding but any extra cash donations in
the form of small scale sponsorship from whoever is a bonus.
Why is undoubtedly why you're lounging in the Spanish sunshine and not
working - someone who is wise with his money.

Sorry but I pay taxes to fund those.
But why would I do that? - darsy earns far more cash than me and his
pretentious lunches are paid for by his employer.

The team choose to go racing for fun - why should we raise money for other
    people's hobbies?

Team auctions where we buy stuff[1] that has been donated or sponsorship for
something which benefits other people[2], fine, but handing over money so
someone else can have fun with it? Can't see the attraction myself.

    Dave

[1] Must remember to not promise bought stuff to other people when pissed
    next time....
[2] Now if you said "Team UKRM are paying for the race themselves and I
think we should sponsor them, say 10p a lap completed to Cancer
    Research/Riders for Health/Oxfam/whatever" I'd probably join in.

  12. It's like that here. A veggie friend visited last year. I say to the guy
in the pub "something without meat" (en español). The reply: "What about
a bit of squid then, or maybe some ham?" She had a mushroom omelette.

  14. Didn't imply this.
Exactly what others have said. If anyone wants to sponsor my next
holiday, then that's fine by me.
Don't know what you're trying to say, really.
Bah! I wouldn't give 'em tuppence.
Or donate towards darsy's next pretentious lunch. It's just that I don't
see people (other than darsy) suggesting this.
Shit, I fell asleep. I'll go for a dip now.

Just watched someone being thrown out of a bar. "Please don't come here
again without money." These spaniards don't do confrontation. This
Rumanian bloke's apparently been getting pissed every day for weeks
without forking out a cent. If someone shags your wife, you just don't
speak to them for a couple of days.

Well absolutely. After all, if Southerners weren't paying through the nose

  17. Oops. Actually, I was "following" the team at the time ie; attending all
the races. That was my way of "participating", as I couldn't race to
    save my life.

Perhaps that's what it's all about - wanting to feel "part" of the whole
    thing.

d'you really think so? I don't get paid that much. If you want "gets

    heh. Mostly, they're not.

  20. It's not some "worthy cause", it's a bunch of grown up kids having some
    very expensive fun.
Yes I do. I want to take expensive holidays in exotic places. I'd also
like a light aircraft and a small yacht.
Yes, but why give money towards their fun and not mine (or darsy's lunches)?
Nah. I'm crap with money. I've just been very lucky. And surprisingly,
I'm not mean. I could have a hell of a lot more money than I have.
Actually, I agree entirely. It's one of the things that pissed me off
    about the UK.
But I'm sure he'd like more.
