presumably you now have an insurance sticker. or is the bike
    swiss-registered?

    The latter.

The Swiss don't have any need of additional stickers for tax or
insewerants. as the police (who are also the licensing authority) have
all your details and will come round and remove your number (licence)
    plates if you haven't paid/renewed.

I keep mine on the bike as you should to prevent getting a fine.

Never had one nicked but I *am* a lazy **** so mine is on a bulldog clip in
the kitchen as i just can't be arsed to put the fucker in a holder and
attach it to the bike and, if I ever get pulled (which hasn't happened since
about 1988) then I am ready with the line:

"My tax disc? Yes, officer! It's just there" <point to place where bolt is
obviously missing> "Oh, ****! It's fallen off again!"...

And then go home and fetch it to show if I really need to after 'finding' it
on the road outside my house....

What - nick yer bike and replace it with a large wooden horse ...
then, when you're standing there all puzzled like, scratching yer head
and wondering how to explain _this_ to Auntie Carole, they sneak up
behind you, rip yer leathers down to yer ankles and without so much as
a by-yer-leave or even a smear of Lurpak (unsalted) give you a severe
    buggering there in the street?

Have we let them into Europe yet?

  8. That's nice. It means they can't nick you for speeding because they
    can't get your number.

Some people would pay good money for that.

A mate of mine has scanned his tax disc and puts the copy on the bike.
Sounds like a plan to me!

  12. Thanks for the replies to my post. I have read them all and
considered what has been said and have come to a compromise over where
to keep my tax disc on my bike. What I have done is modified the
holder and mounted it under the seat on my bike. Thus I don't have to
worry about carrying it with me at all times (eg if it was in my
wallet), as it is still fixed onto the bike, and if I get stopped or
an 'officer' wants to see it all I have to do is lift the seat.
Hopefully as well it will cut down the likelehood of it being stolen
as firstly you can't see where it is kept anyway and secondly you will
have to take the seat off to get at it.
