tank bag

I decided to install one of these on the Norge because I can :)

THe topbox uses a separate key and fiddling with that inside the case
it lives in so it doesn't scratch the paintwork was being annoying.
Plus when the bike's fully loaded, especially with things strapped to
the pillion seat, getting the topbox open is difficult.

So I started wondering about a small bag that I could put the things I
need on a touring stop - wallet, phone, book - in and not have to root
about in the topbox for them. But where I had a good chance they
wouldn't get wet. (those "waterproof" pockets in jackets? Just means
    the water can't get *out*.)

I thought of say a bumbag clipped between the bars, and Guzzi sell a
bag that clips to the bars, but I bet it would cost about $100 and
be difficult to remove looking at the pics. Meaning worrying about
leaving it on the bike but being annoyed at having to fiddle with
    removing it.

I rather liked the idea of the quick on off tankbag where you didn't
have to undo clips and straps, and where it didn't touch the tank at
all so no scratch fears. I've had a bad experience with a magnetic
bag. (And can't use one on the Norge anyway.)

I bought the quicklok system and the daypack bag from
www.motorradgarage.com.au who are friendly and very efficient and I
recommend highly as excellent people to deal with.

The daypack is small, fits my handbag and my lunch and that's about it,
although other things can be squeezed in if you have to. For touring
I'd probably just put the wallet and phone in there and the rest of the
crap can live in the topbox.

But for going to work it is great. bag and lunch and other small
items in the tankbag, click on the tank, click off, simple and easy.
Bag doesn't get in my way at all but is nice to rest an arm on at
    stops.

I've had a bagster on the 850T and it was OK but I like this more for
what I need to do. I could get a larger bag to fit this system but
    don't see the need.

Yeah, fitting it to a bike they didn't have a fitment for needed tools
I didn't have, but that's what gadget freak friends are for!

  2. Aldi had a good carry pack a while ago, maybe they will bring it back for
sale, was fairly cheap if I remember right about $70 and it separated by
unzipping, top half went on the tank and the bottom half went on the
gearsack rack or whatever you have the top part went on the tank with
magnets and there was a strap for under the tank if needed, but the 6
magnets were strong enough to hold it on at 160 with no movement without the
    strap.

Looking at that tank ring, I think I'd need to be pre-ordering my
    neuticles...

And you see boys and girls, this is why we need decent rider training.
You learn to get on and off the motorcycle *properly*.

You did have me worried for a moment, whether there was a conspiracy
about blokes being better off without certain apendages,

notwithstanding you're a top bloke an' all...

Yeah it looked like it might work for the touring end, but I'm more
than happy with the slightly larger daypack which takes more than I
    thought it would.

I've ordered the map holder to go with it, see how that works on the
    next biggish run.

Work are pushing me to take leave so I am thinking I might go to
Adelaide again to have some quality time with the Yellow Devil but
take 3 days to get there via Broken Hill with lots of stops and
    tourist things.

  9. Dunno, but if you had asked: " What sort of a fella carries a purse?"
I would have said: "A fella with a crook shoulder."

I can't get coins or bank notes out of the fob pocket of my jeans or
trousers without dropping my pants. I found a purse that doesn't look too
feminine and has three compartments, so I use one compartment for a Visa
card another for small denomination bank notes the other for coins. When I
produce the purse to make a payment it sometimes causes raised eyebrows but
I bet if I dropped my pants to get money out of my fob pocket the eyebrows
    would be raised higher. ;-)

Why not use the normal pockets. I never use my fob pockets.

On of our sales guys carries an over the shoulder bag.

But then, with a name like Gerry.......

I didn't used to use a handbag, as a wallet with a coin pocket and
credit card slots in a back pocket works for me.

Alas once I add the other junk - phone, N810-and-useful-N810-bits, USB
key, glasses, work keys - then a bag of some kind was necessary.

Now I find it very useful indeed for carrying even more stuff!

    Err... why a purse?

There are such things as manbags you do realize.

I think you might have a problem if you whip those out when asked to
    pay your bill....

  16. I do use the normal pockets, I place my wallet in my back pocket and the
    purse in the front pocket.

A wallet with a coin pocket and credit card slots would suit me better, so
I'll have a look around for something like that.
LOL, there's probably no turning back for you now. :)

Wallet in back pocket, phone on belt, keys and coins in side pocket,
glasses on my face. That's it for me.
