Talk me out of it

Discussion in 'Texas Bikers' started by Patrick St. Jean, May 29, 2008.

  1. I'm seriously looking at picking up a used BMW R1150RT and would like
to tap in to the collective wisdom.

I'm looking for someting in my budget (~9k or so max), that can tour
without beating me into the ground. Light, 6 speed tranny, fuel
injection, windshield, and bags are all must haves.

The BMW just seems to fit the bill, in the 2002 - 2004 year range.

    Thoughts? Opinions? Other suggestions?

  2. Noway I'd talk you out of it - heck, pick one up for me while you're at
    it. ;-)

Good to hear from you Pat - how's life going?

The Beemers are like riding on air - the smoothest bike I've ever tried
but too small for me (bummer).

  3. Hehehe... If I could I would, but as it is I'm looking at used bikes.
Busy. Very busy. That plus a bike that hates hot weather, sitting in
the garage waiting for the oil cooler to arrive.

I'm just getting cage fever. Sick of not riding.
Got to get a test ride or so lined up. I'd like to have it by September
but I've got a couple debts that I'd really like to pay off before I
    do this.

Btw, aren't you about old enough for a big HD bagger yet?
Going to TN on mine this wknd. Wouldn't trade it for 2 BMWs.

I'd trade your bagger for 2 BMWs. And I'd even let you have one of them.

=======come to think a bout it, Bill Cee, is likely the best ''air
rider'' on this fine group. And did'it on a heavy ol' Harley, I think.

  8. Thanks Louie - thanks MrJ - now that I've accomplished riding through air
I have to look forward and not back. It's the old "been thar, done that"
scenario so as much as I would like to do it again i'm afraid to say I
won't. I know you all will be disappointed that there won't be an encore
    presentation but you're young, you'll adjust. 8-}

=======naw, Bill Cee, we dont wanna see or know about that kinda
    ''encore''.
We dont think you could top the first act anyway....so start something
new, like talking the wife into riding with ya. MrJayT-

  13. Loving it so far. The ABS took a little getting used to, but it's
    been fun.

Planning a long assed spring ride, probably out west, through NM, AZ,
CA, NV, UT, CO, KS, OK, then back home.

Be sure and hit the Canyonlands National Park near Moab, UT
while you're out that way. There's some spectacular scenery
there. The Arches National Park is nice but if you've only
got time for one make it Canyonlands.

  16. Thanks for the tip. I've already rerouted to take US-50 through Nevada
instead of the superslab, so what's a little more? :)
