According to ITV's London Tonight, Ken didn't even know of this. He has
tonight said he'll get TfL to 'look again' at the proposal.

  2. There you go.
You would be surprised who monitors UKRM to find the pulse of the
    nation.

  3. Other operators include Addison Lee Taxi Bikes, Passenger Bikes, and
London Executive. Customers have included the Duchess of Devonshire, who
once needed urgent treatment from a hairdresser.

Was that before or after she put the helmet on?

  4. Of course they will. I heard somewhere that the only reason they've not
done it until now is because the technology wouldn't allow it. I don't
know how hard it is to read rear facing as opposed to front, but there
    you go...

I'm going to make a handle that slides a piece of metal or plastic over
my plate though if it does go ahead. Just see if I don't.

  5. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Whinging Courier
Enough layers of laquer and she wouldn't need a helmet.

  6. Ha - well that half proves my theory as to the TfL thought process. They
came up with the idea but didn't tell the Mayor. Oh dear - someone's
going to be kicked black and blue for that error. This sort of "error"
    is not tolerated.

In all the hysteria, it must be remembered that we all are guilty of
not having thoughts occur to us, which are beyond our day to day
    experience. And that's understandable.

Some poor sod was drafting a document defining a taxi, so they did
what any of us would do: defined a taxi. Black, four wheels, roof
high enough for a gentleman to sit without removing his top hat, etc.

How many limo-bikes have Virgin got? Ten? No wonder they didn't pop
    into anyone's mind.

But all of a sudden it's "Red Ken's got it in for bikers:, "Ken's a
    power-hungry wanker", "kill, kill, kill".

Grow up, people. Don't get suckered in by the media's angle.
I don't know what the law says about it, but I say that it would make
the operator no better than the dodgy mini-cabs available in the West
    End after 8pm.

It's rather worrying how many seem to leave, proven, cognitive ability at
    the door.

Er - so you're saying that not understanding the consequences of your
actions is okay, so long as it's only a minority that's affected?
You have a point, however people in positions to make laws, IMO, should
understand ALL the implications of those laws.

    Is that what I said?
Ok, well that works both ways. To criticize, you need a better
understanding of the law-making process. This sort of thing happens
*all* the time. Why do you think the legislative body is so large?

For example, another in the vehicle world: when using cellphones while
driving became illegal in the UK, it was pointed out that it's illegal
to hold the thing to your ear and speak, but legal to have it in a
dash-mounted holder and type a text message with two hands.

It's *impossible* to draft legislation to catch all possible angles of
every single fucking thing. It just can't be done.

  13. But it would be nice is the legislative body got it close to right first
time. I'm not just thinking of this particular case but many others that
I am aware of because of my own particular interests, as others here
must be with their own insight in to a particular field.
These people get paid a fortune and appear not to have the sense to make
inquires out side of the four walls of their office or gentleman's club
they spend most of their time in.

It would be nice, I agree. I'm just suggesting that the reaction here
    is hysterical.
    Clerks in the civil service?

    They don't.
Nice rhetoric, but it doesn't fit the true context here.

  17. I get the impression that the man is just the figure head and as such
takes the blame for the cock eyed miss thought out ideas that come out
of "his office". If he does, having had a dig in the ribs, do something
about the bike taxis thing he at least shows he is on top of the
    mandarins.
I have a mate who's father is in a legislative body ( don't know what
but he keeps going on about it. He is something to do with the legal
profession). I was using him in the back of my mind when I wrote the
    above.
    He does :)
Maybe not here but see above.

  18. So people who draft laws, regulations and orders can make a slap dash
effort and do no research can they Ben? If that's the case why do
lawyers have to be so highly trained and why are they so expensive when
you appear to accept that they can provide ill researched crap?

I know you won't hear a word said against Uncle Ken but surely it is not
wrong to expect competence from him and his team of very highly paid
    advisers?
Can you please give us lessons on how to achieve your perfect levels of
    perception of the media?

    It happens all the time.
Lawyers don't draft legislation; civil servants do.
    I don't claim to be perfect, I just don't acknowledge that there's
    always an agenda.
