One of the lads in my office has just broken his tibia whilst doing his
motorcycle training. How the **** he did it, I don't yet know.

I'm guessing maybe he fell off a motorcycle and broke his leg.

When I was doing my Star Rider training a guy broke his leg whilst drinking
    a cup of coffee.
The coffee itself was fairly safe but he happened to be standing in the path
of a throttle stuck open MZ whose owner had fallen off a hundred feet away.
I still have a vivid impression of his blood soaked Hi-vis vest.

"BRAKE" would love a picture like that for their advertising I'm sure :)

That old loose carb top gambit on 125s. Crazy, crazy MZs.

    Heh, pedantic bugger.

Apparently it was a newbie thing. Too much front brake, locked up wheel
and whilst he was falling, put his leg out to stop falling over.

In the past five years I've saved the bike from going down twice by
sticking my boot in and hoiking the bike back up after the front slid.
It fucking hurts after a few minutes, but it's worth not having the
    expense of fixing the bike.

You should pop over and teach him how to do that. The next time he gets
on two wheels after his leg mends, that is.
