Symphonically deep throating an '03 XX

Well, after a few beers last night, I got to thinking that the XX needs some
help in the audio department (...yes, perhaps the visual dept. as well but
that doesn't interest me at this point). So, I'm interested to hear about
pipes that add something a bit special to this bike.

I'm not really requiring more power (!!), will have to keep them in their
current position given our pannier use and legal will probably be the way to
go (though if those damned baffles happen to fall out, I won't be too
upset...). I want to hear this donk sing sweet songs baby - though perhaps
unlikely to ever rival the Eye-talian orchestra that once resided between my
    legs. *sniff* :)

So any direction you can give will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

Hmmm, yes it seems that way, however I'm struggling with the idea of my bike
being close to any noise level limit. So what can I expect for what $$ and
has anyone got anything to recommend on this matter? I'll be Googling on
this but of course I respect the opinions of fellow ausmotians... :)

'tunes are most probably your best bet.
Not too loud, and if you feel you wanna give it some more, take the
    removable baffles out...
Should be nearly close enough to "legal" with the baffles in, though.
    $?
No idea, call Staintune directly, sometimes they have specials on for
    certain models.
Generally single pots are around $700, twin pots about $1200 (after a bit of
    "shopping").

    Hi Pete,

According to the Staintune site, no pipes exist for my bike. I'll keep
    looking!

    Give Remus Exhausts a try.

They say they try hard for good sound, even in their legal exhausts.

No idea who stocks them, but a decent bike shop should know.

Its all bullshit aint it, what about boat anchors (harleys) they are
    fucked from new...

Why not bust the lowered Gino crowd? Bikes easier targets??

    Hi Big,

Yup - this just joins the pile of laughable (if it were funny) legislation
that could never pass a fair 'reasonable man' test (or reasonable woman for
that matter). When I studied law, this was posed as the basis for our legal
environment but your assessment IMHO is fair.

    Easy targets we are...

David, if you really have to ride a bike with noisy exhausts get
    something else.

The whole character of a Blackbird XX is that it does everything so
nicely and without any apparent effort or noise.

Don't know about any others, but the Bandit shipped with a whisper
quiet 80dB pipe, going up to 94dB was legal (except for problems with
EPA stickers we all know about) and a dramatic improvement

Most of the big bore 4cylinders seem to be very quiet stock.

All of the staintune pipes I've heard have a nice note, second that
(they sounded very nice on the TRX), all the remus' I've heard have
been quite harsh with the exception of an SZR660. Also consider
Formula 1 in Brisneyland - the carbon clad on the Bandit has a very
nice tone and has been proven noise legal by the EPA on a couple of
    occasions.

No, that's probably when staintune stopped updating their list.

My 2002 1100XX had the standard pipes which were 90dB, got some Scorpion
    pipes off Ebay (
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=35230&item=2480383800
) quite cheap, $405. Sound is much deeper but at 94dB it is much louder. I
do not think my neighbours appreciate the extra noise. I try to keep it to a
minimum though. Did not get it for the power though and probably would not
have got them if they cost a packet.

I have not done any tuning to the bike since I put the new cans on - I was
told it would not need it as the efi should compensate. Also these pipes
were supposedely designed/made to go on a 1100XX without the need to be
    tuned.

Re getting the sticker done. Total cost $60 and about 30 minutes. $20 for
the sticker, $22 for the test & engineers certificate and $18 for the
engraving. Same bloke did it all.

Put a bong in your bag and your standard exhaust will sound just fine.
