SYDNEY: Rally at parliament house about CTP

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Zebee Johnstone, Jul 14, 2010.

  1. This is not an MCC organised ride. It is not an organised ride at
all. It is a gathering of concerned people.

All riders will be finding their own way to the Rally which will be at
12 noon on Tueday August 31st at Parliament House, Macquarie Street Sydney.

Yes, this means you have to be willing to give up a weekday.

Yes, this means if you want to ride in a group you have to organise
    that with others.

On the other hand, bodies willing to actually give up something
important, like an RDO or flex or even an annual leave day so they can
go to Parliament House count for more than those who are only willing
to spend an hour or two on a weekend riding with their mates.

  2. I'm intrigued as you have announced it is not organised. I am thinking
therefore the ride does not have a permit? How you going to go if the
police decide to be hard-footed about that?

Yes, I realise it could be coincidence that a shitload of bikes happen
to turn up at the same time. But I don't see the law accepting that.

    It's a rally.

    Not a ride.

I have no idea what the legality of it is, but as far as I know there
is no law that forbids people turnnig up at PH although they will have
to move on if asked I think.

If people want to ride in groups, they organise that.

If they want to be part of sending a message they turn up how they
    think best.

  4. Yeah, but what why not make it a notified rally. What's going to
happen if the cops get wind of it and move you on immediately? Doesn't
make much of a protest if it lasts 30 seconds.

I was involved in a protest in Melbourne earlier this year regarding
music venue regulations. We shut down Melbourne CBD for 2 hours on a
Tuesday afternoon, with full co-operation of the police and it was
brilliant. And got the state legislation reversed.
