SYD: Sydney council road safety plan - consultation.

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Zebee Johnstone, Oct 18, 2005.

  1. Note - if you won't make it to the meeting, but have suggestions for
the plan, then tell us what they are, and I'll take them to the meeting.
But all riders who can make it are encouraged to do so.

You can get the current plan from
    http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/Community/Safety/RoadSafetyProgram/RoadSafetyStrategy.asp

What will make riding a bike in the city of sydney safer? What will
make parking safer? Not just where, but how you enter and leave the
parking space, should there be bollards round the major bike parks to
stop cars? Would footpath parking in some areas be safer than road
    parking, why?

Don't forget to address safety - it's about safety not really
convenience. So if you have an idea, explain why it's safer.

What makes it unsafe for bikes? road surface, cars, buses, trucks,
wayward pedestrians, too much street furniture...

What changes would make it better? If something's wrong, what would
    make it right?

We have a chance to make a difference in the city, and that can spread
to other councils. But to make it happen, we have to present sensible
    ideas that they can use.

    MOTORCYCLE COUNCIL OF NSW

The City of Sydney is currently writing its Road Safety Strategic Plan

Motorcycle safety is now flagged as an essential component of this plan
which will guide Sydney for the next few years.

Consultation with riders has been arranged.

    WHEN:
    Monday 24 October,
    6:00pm to 7:30pm

    WHERE:
Telstra meeting rooms, corner of Barrack and Clarence Streets (near
    Officeworks)

    FORMAT:
    [Part 1]
A brief presentation by Liz deRome, consultant to the Motorcycle Council of
NSW on "How road safety is delivered in Sydney"
A basic introduction to who is responsible for what.

    [Part 2]
A structured session to collect submissions, suggestions and ideas

    [Part 3]
Establish a priority order of importance or significance.

Through this process, riders have their say incorporated into the ROad
Safety Strategic Plan for the City Council of Sydney.
It used to be all about bicycles and pedestrians.
It will be unless we provide sensible alternatives.

THIS IS THE TIME TO ACT.
We need your ideas and input and ability to think and make decisions.
Commonsense observations? Please deliver them here.
The first item of business will be the order for pizza.

Please advise Guy to book a seat. SMS to 0417 661 827 or email Guy
    Stanford <>.

Keep the 'phone number - it's a security building and if you're late, call
    me to be let in.

    Guy Stanford
    Chairman
    Motorcycle Council of NSW

Note: that's 151 Clarence St. between Red Cross and Officeworks, and
security kicks in at 6pm so look out for the short guy in the suit (me),
or for Guy, to let you upstairs. If there's no-one around mill aimlessly
in the foyer until I get back from herding the previous group upstairs :)
