I drove up Alice Street just now. Roadworks are in progress leaving

a grooved road with lumps at every access cover almost big enough to

tip my car over, if I'd been on the bike I think I'd be writing

this from hospital. I saw one sign, placed just around the corner

from Edgeware Road, and far too late to be any use as a warning.

The sign warned of "No Lines"

There was no mention of grooved road or cycle hazard. Totally

inadequate signage badly placed could kill an inexperienced rider.

Please let as many as possible of your members know to take care if

    in Alice St Newtown.

I rang the RTA who were't interested, fobbed me off with the Police

Info Line who said it was a grey area and they can only attend after

an accident. They put me through toNewtown police who claimed to be

aware of the problem and being "extra vigilant" So why haven't they

contacted the Council to ask for better signs

I rang Marrickville Council's answering service who said they would

let someone know but I should ring back in the morning.

Why can't these bureacracies talk to each other?

Already claimed one cyclist by Sunday evening.

I understand as reported, scratched new scooter, sprained wrist etc etc.

Must be Useless Week at Marrickville Council.
