Swinging Arm Spindle Removal

XS failed its MOT on a seized swinging arm and a warped disc [1]. Anyway
the spindle is being a pest.

I've battered the little bastard so much its started stretching the
threads. And as rufty tufty as it is, swinging large hammers in this
heat became too much after an hour.

The other end has an end with two flat faces that can get a 17mm open jaw
spanner. This coupled with an old fork stanchion results in the spanner
jaws spreading, even my Facom one.

The (plain bushed) swinging arm moves up and down (stiffly) but the
    spindle rotates as well.

Heat the bejeesus out of the swinging arm is about the only thing I can
    think of.

Please someone tell the magic incantation. I don't get this problem with
    elderly European machines...

I had thought I was a riding God sliding the back end with ease
unfortunately this was more because it was (a) practically a hardtail and
    (b) crap.

[1] This is the subject of an experiment. The conclusions of which I
will reveal to an expectant world in due course.

AOL. This was the "cure" I had to use on a GS550.
