Our ever-helpful HR dept have just sent round an advisory note on the
    subject of swine flu.

Crucially, in order to limit the risk of the disease spreading through
the office, anti-bacterial handwash has been provided in shared areas.

    To which I say: Fail.

There's nothing wrong with it as such. What amused me is they've gone to
the effort of replacing (or augmenting) the existing handwash in those
areas (kitchen, bogs, etc) with anti-bacterial handwash and then made a
song and dance about it. An exercise in futility.

Only two? You'd think the black death was on our doorstep the way the
emails are flying around this place.

Bring it back? It never really want away, even in your part of the
    world:

    It's a chickenshit disease though - Ebola's where it's at.

Well yes, it can be airborne, but it can also be transmitted by hand
    contact.

Ogden's point is more that it's a virus, and he feels that
anti-bacterial soap wouldn't be appropriate to tackle it. I don't know
for sure, but I suspect that it would indeed be beneficial, as most
such products are not specific to one type or other of pathogen.

Remember "Domestos kills all known germs, dead"?

Wouldn't recommend using it as soap though. Tingles a bit.

Oh hell aye, whilst a work of fiction to a degree, Richard Preston's The Hot
Zone is a fucking good read about the old Ebola virus.

  18. We had one today -- to say that the number of reported cases of
mumps on campus keeps increasing. There's an under-reported epidemic
    going on.
