your bikes/years ratio is lower than mine. I'm having a big think at
the moment about buying something to do distance work on - I want to
keep the KTM but fancy something for the occasional weekend mini-tour.

Something inexpensive (say 2-3k), reliable, good tank range,
relatively comfortable, a bit but not too sporty. Dodger's 'bird would
have been ideal. The clumsy ****.

Of course, this is all predicated on my actually getting a bonus this
year, which is by no means certain.

    My list is even shorter

    Yamaha FZR400RSP
    Suzuki SV650SY
    Suzuki GSX-R750WW
    Suzuki GSX-R1000K1
    Kawasaki ZX-10RD7
    Suzuki GSX-R1000K8

Yay! I haven't got the shortest list:

    Kawasaki GPz550
    Honda VFR800
    Aprilia SL1000
    Kawasaki GT750
    Suzuki Bandit 1200
    Kawasaki ZX-9R
    Cagiva Elefant 900

I also appear to have very little brand loyalty, but I really need to
pull my finger out so I can.

Have you not thought about the new Stradivarius GSX-1400 with cat-gut and
    carbon fibre bow?

    In communiqué
Faux, or more accurately réplique, would be a better description.

Basically a YZ250 with lights, half efficient silencer, and a side
stand. Shown accurately as a YZ250 on the French Registration document.

Looks the part, though the engine number prefix, lack of snail cam chain
adjustment and other details betray its origins.

Having not ridden a genuine one, I could be convinced that it has had
the heavier WR flywheel crank put in (assuming that is possible).
Amazingly tractable for a two-stoke crosser. But then it is geared low
enough to climb the local to the 'chateau' infamous 'Corbeau Mort'
track, or it would be if I had the skill, stamina and bottle.

I bimble it round the easier forest roads occasionally and visitors have
been known to be let loose on it within the confines of our land. It may
well be brought back to blighty and turned in to a nice light speed hill
climber for my dotage and the lad's progression.

Hey, I was going to have that off him for the next TOGTour!

But really, any Blackbird or ZZR11 would fit your description, and
there's just loads of them around.
Or even having a job :) We're all in the same boat, I think.

yeah, I know, I've had a look. Plenty in the 2.5-3K bracket.
well yes. I've just made someone redundant today. He's relatively
happy, walking away with the equivalent of 18 months of take-home
    salary.

I reckon I'm safe until Q3, as I have a lot of projects under way
until then. After that, all bets are off.

Assessor mentioned £3k. We'll see what ERS say.
A damned sight quicker than the one I'm due from the MIB, at a guess.

MIB doesn't pay out for protective clothing, apparently. I'm going to
put everything in the claim, mind.

Then there's the solicitors' 33% to take off.

Apart from all the other stuff...£18.92 for fork oil??? Even the Honda
suspension fluid SS-8 stuff is only about £6 a half-litre, which ought to be
    enough for one fork leg.
