The local rag in Gloucester (which I saw in WHS) had an article having a go
at Top Gear for "encouraging speeding", and mentioning that one of the
presenters lives in the Forest. "You sad fuckers", I thought, and went on
my way. About 10 minutes later, in the bus station, I was set on by a droid
from Severn Sound (a local radio station) with a mike and a minidisc
recorder, obviously doing vox pops. He wanted to know my views on the hot
topic of the day - Top Gear encouraging speeding...

    "Bollocks", quoth I.
"...except that word", he said. Ah. For broadcast. Heh...
"They're all cunts!" I shouted into his microphone.
    "We can't broadcast that."
"**** 'em. I've got a bus to catch." ...and went off and caught my bus.

Honestly, if I was that influenced by what I saw on television, I'd be
gathering an army to go off and invade a Middle East country, kill thousands
of people and steal their oil.

Ferry? We're getting a really shite old tramp freighter that'll take about
a month to get to the Med. We'll pick up "a consignment of machine parts"
in Marseilles, and loads of empty oil drums for target practice. We'll need
to restock the booze there, too. I'm looking forward to the Suez Canal -
pissed out of our heads, hurling empties at the sides of supertankers,
    potshots at the ragheads etc.

I'm undecided which country to go for, although Iran might be a good
option - they've got a big bit of coastline on the Caspian Sea, which is
where the oil is nowadays. Most of the pipelines from the Caspian go to the
Black Sea ports, but I think there's money to be made from running a
pipeline down to the Gulf. The Yanks would be happy to see sensible people
take over - practically limitless sponsorship from the CIA, and we'd be
really generous with letting the US set up military bases, so we wouldn't
have to worry about defending either our east or west borders. And, once
we'd converted it back into a right-thinking democracy, the tourists would
    come back.

Absolutely shitloads of money, you mark my words.

I'm transitioning between roles atm, so plenty of opportunity for perfecting
    my "idle, useless tosser" skills.
Mostly gone - a few scars and lumpy bones, but the weight's coming under
control and I'm back in the gym.

North Korea's the one you want to invade. You'll become a de facto
Nuclear Power for starters. You can be rude to China and our friends
from Merkania and, well, everywhere. OK, N Korea doesn't have a whole
lot of resourses but its people are little, starving and will be easy to
    control[1]. YKIMS.

    Canal -

speaking of canals. Although it's plainly obvious when viewing a map, I
was quite surprised recently to discover that, given the relative
positions of the two oceans concerned, to see that the Atlantic
entrance to the Panama Canal is to the /East/ of the Pacific entrance.

[Atlantic entrance -v- Pacific entrance to Panama Canal]
look on a map, it's obvious - it just seems counter intuitive until you
    *do* see the map.
