Ah yes. I was thinking tee intersection, or too fast. "Approaching"
would translate more appropriately here as "merging."

Safer, but there's nothing wrong with a bit of danger, biker boy.

Haven't you ever seen the cyclists who have panniers strapped the the forks
of their bikes? I've not seen any evidence that a side wind deposits them in
    hedges. Which is a shame.

    I thought this one

"Failure to yield to oncoming train 80 euro fine" was a bit redundant. What
bits would pay the fine after being hit by a train?

Think also of the priority system.

Scenario; a N,S,E,W cross roads. The 'main' road is the S & E arms of
the cross, and prioritised with appropriate signage.
Approaching the cross roads from the E, you are on the priority road,
but convention says you will indicate left(right from the S) even though
you are on the priority road. Belt & Braces approach to safety see?

One further rule, any manoeuvre that involves crossing a line must be
indicated, therefore overtaking, sorry, passing :), requires both out
    and in signals.

Don't say the German aren't thorough in rooting out the causes of
    accidents;

"August 2, 1982 – Ostercappeln, Germany: Two drunk British Army soldiers
steal a tank at the Osnabrück barracks and crash into the oncoming D
15233 after the tank has been driven on the Rollbahn railway tracks.
Both engines of the train and five cars derail, the tank is completely
destroyed. 23 are injured, the two soldiers are instantly killed."

Yeah. The law says "Thou shalt signal," even when there is no legal
alternative. The last time I was stopped by plod, they cited me for
not indicating. I cried, "But I was in the Left Turn Only lane, I
_had_ to turn left! It would be illegal for me do do anything else."
Didn't matter to them. Using that logic says you need to indicate
every time you go around a bend in the road.

Curiously I was told many moons ago that if I did that signal on my
driving test, I would probably get failed (for lack of observation)

Yeah, UK plod drivers are taught, according to Roadcraft, that Thou
Shalt Signal only when there's someone who _might_ benefit from it -
if you're not sure then you're not doing a good enough job of looking
    out for the someone.

    Well duh.

OK, so maybe not everyone knows that Roadcraft is also the IAM bible.
    And Rospa too.

You shouldn't signal when doing a U-Turn either for the same reason.
