  1. Anyone here got an old Suzuki GS1000? Desperate to pick someone's
    brain...

    I've owned GS1000S/E/Gs and rebuilt and worked on a few. What do you need to
    know?

  4. Apart from the chain/shaft issue, they're enginely brothers to the 850s;
    is it a mechanical query?

    Teach a man to fish and he and his pikey mates will have the

    Uh, are you sure about that? I've owned both the GS850 and GS1000 and I
    thought the 850 was developed from the 750. I can remember the comments in
    the mags at the time. In fact a bit of Googling shows things like the cam
    cover gaskets are the same for the 750 & 850, but not the 1000.

    OTOH this was some 25+ years ago so my memory could be playing tricks.

    But the 850 was a shafty, no?

    My, somewhat skaky, recollection is that the 550 and 750 came first,
    followed by the chain-driven GS1000, then the 850 and a shaft version
    of the thou derived from it.

    But ICBW.
