What appalls me the most is my 3yo has picked up a seppo accent due to
watching Austar. You'd think her Mum didn't talk - I know she does!

I think that what happens is a lot of people do the seppo accent as a
parody, and somehow get stuck in the groove - very easy to do, dude
<snigger>..... in your daughter's case, though, being as she is so young and
impressionable - almost a veritable tabula rasa (well, at 3, maybe
not!)....maybe she needs more Home Input!!!!!

Yeah, and I wonder about those too. Just gives me the willies to hear
people say things like "go figure". Go figure what?

"Out of left field" without even knowing it's a baseball term.

Referring to dogs generically as "Fido" in advertising when I've never
ever heard an Australian call their dog Fido, etc.

Referring to footpaths as sidewalks, skipping ropes as jump ropes, etc.

But the bloke who had the "bad attitude toward Americans..." wasn't the one
    who said "SUV".
Who were you actually talking about whan you said "..those who have a bad
attitude toward Americans are often the first to pick up their lingo..."?

I haven't had a run in one, but everyone who has seem to agree with what
    you say.

Maybe I should add that to my list, for when I get really old and
    silly...... along with the I-Convert.
    Yup!

The Americanism that grates most on my ears, and eyes in print, is the use
of the word 'fit' where fitted should be used. "I got the new part and it
    fit perfect".
