I wear a TAG Heuer that I've owned for about 10 years and the initial
cost has been covered by the fact that what I'd classify as a run of
the mill watch costing around £50 usually lasts me about 6 months
    before I wreck it.

I work in a nasty environment that means watches get exposed to
chemicals, vibration, shocks, extreme temperatures and general owner
idiocy and it's the first watch I've owned that's been able to cope. I
used to use it for caving and cave diving which meant it got battered
about and immersed in silty water for long periods of time and all it
gets is a service when the battery dies.

Oh, the main thing is that it tells me the time and date in as simple
a manner as is possible. I'd buy another if I ever found this ones
    limits.

I don't like it, because, secretly, I fear I'd be unable to cope with the
    technology.

    Good.

I find knowing the current time quite useful in making sure I'm at the
right place when I want to be. A watch meets this requirement rather
    nicely. YMMV.

    It looks nice.
    Its a gadget toy.
Apart from being a watch it just duplicates functions that other things
    provide.

So if you've got the money, buy it.

Personally it looks about as useful as a car stereo remote control in a
2 seater coupe, which I suppose you could use to change tracks whilst
you walk round the car washing it...
