They really should have put it back in the frame...
*Snort*
On Mon, 29 Nov 2004 07:20:11 +0000, It's not true, I tell you! Some of them (e.g. mine, new in 1992) were not bad at all. Just slightly clunky 'tweeen first and second, but I've ridden Hondas with worse.
Make that 2 out of 6, assuming you hadn't already counted me. Is 15000 miles in 18 months counted as 'reasonable distance'? Never had any probs, anyhoo, including the gearbox, which was fine.
Ace emerged from their own little world to say <waves> 2 from 7 1996 TDM850, 270 deg. crank, no probs in 2 years & 18k miles. The gearbox took a bit of getting used to but was only marginally worse than my current bike. Both need a positive boot.
2 from 8 2001, 17k miles. Gearbox working fine but a bit agricultural, doesn't bother me after 3 other Yamahas and a BMW.
I think that as usual, one only hears about the bad ones. Whilst I owned a TDM I spoke to many people who did quite high mileages, and never found anyone with any horror stories.
Asked him today - wants £1000 but will take £750 for it from anyone who knows me. Good winter hack for someone? JP
<slings hat in the ring> Consider this me asking for first dibs - if you could email me some contact details, (and if possible some pictures), my email addy is unmunged. TIA
