Sunglasses - advice FOAK

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by FrJack @ work, Jul 17, 2006.

  1. I need some new sunglasses, can anyone recommend any good ones?

I need flexi hinges, straight arms, strong lenses and under £40.

    TIA

Aye. Oakleys are the way to go.
Bwaahaahaa. I've got a battered (but new lenses) old pair of FMJs that
are probably still worth more than that.

Unless you suffer from a deap seated clumsy cuntitude when it comes to
    sunglasses.

I have not owned a pair of sunglasses that I havn't sat on, scratched
with sand, lost, stood on, dropped off my head, bent or generally
    fucked up.

Sunglasses for me are a disposable single summer item, so tend to be
    inexpensive.

Just to contradict that I have had my current prescription sunglasses
for 3 years now. Although I did stand on them and one of the lenses is
    scratched.

My old oakleys were great for this - the arms would pop off rather
than break and the lenses could pop out and back again without
breaking. My new ones are all titanium frames, so just won't bend or
    break at all. Allegedly.

no idea. I mean, I've seen subglasses for sale for less than £40, but
they look shit. I think the least I have ever paid for sunglasses[1]
is about 60 quid for a pair of Killer Loops at Sunglass Hut at
    Stansted airport.

[1] at last count, I have 6 pairs of sunglasses - arguably this is
    perhaps too many.

Nope, its not. You can never have too many sunglasses, guitars or
    bikes.
So stop feeling just that teeny bit guilty about it.

Oakley Monster Dogs in black with extra black bits.

I also use some Police sunglasses which look rather nice, straight
arms, rubber bits, but the Oakley's are polarized.

Both did and do cost substantially more than £40.

  12. I just got some Nike V.Cadence glasses which I like very much - good clear
lenses and fit close to the head so they're good under a helmet. They're a
bit over 40 quid though - about 60 seems the cheapest.

I've got a pair of Police sunglasses. After 5 years, they're finally
falling apart. Even then, the repair is only going to take a bit of
Araldite. I've been quite chuffed with them.

But I may go for new sunglasses, meself. And it appears that Oakleys
    are the choice.

I bought a pair of Oakley Unknowns for £89 in the sale, then
promptly scratched a lens 2 days later and had to pay £40
    for replacements. D'oh!

They've been great sunglasses though, and I fall into the
clumsy fuckwit category (see above) and they've lasted
well so far ~2 years and counting.

Expensive sunglasses is so 90s. I've spend loads over the years but I
just kept losing or breaking the cunts. Other than Bausch & Lomb all
the other brands a the emperors new clothes.

Every time I go to a bike related event I find the Anglo American
Eyewear stand and pick a few pairs for a fiver a piece.
