Our club had a "ride to" meeting, on Sunday. We all met in the parking lot of Potters Bar & Grill (closed Sun/Mon.) on Hwy 180 west in Breckenridge, some showing up at 12:30 PM and some showing up a minute to 1PM but we all got going on time. There were 17 bikes and 23 riders/passengers and we all left as a group, heading east through town. Joe acted as Road Captain, since he and I were the ones that knew the route the best. Joe led the way, Paw and Max rode drag and I rode back in the pack, keeping an eye on the front and an eye on slower riders, lest we lose someone. We didn't. I only had to ride to the front once, to report. I guess we need some walkie-talkies. ;) Mad Dog, Rock and Doug acted as Road Guards and did a great job of holding traffic, so our group could pass through town and at each intersection, without incident. The ride to Possum Kingdom Lake took us down Hwy 180 to Brad, then north on Hwy 16 North, around curves and across the bridge over the Brazos River, that is below Morris Shepperd Dam. The scenery just east of Breckenridge, all the way to Possum Kingdom, is beautiful. The landscape undulates with rugged "hills" and gentle valleys, all covered with cedar, oak and mesquite. Past the bridge, twisting Hwy 16 leads around and up Kimberlain Mountain and then a turn west and north onto *FM 2353, was our course. We made a left (west) onto Park Road 36, then took the right Y onto FM 2951, rode about a block and turned into the parking lot of the Rockin S Restaurant, which is located across from the public boat ramp. The view of the lake at this point, is gorgeous, with it's deep blue water and the tall hills, as a backdrop. After a meal, we started our meeting off, as we always do, with the pledge of allegiance. I brought a US flag and Max & Jeff held it proudly, while we said the pledge. I was impressed that some of the patrons of the restaurant that weren't there with us, stood up and said it with us. After the meeting was concluded and everyone had paid their tab, we all rode back to FM 2353 and turned onto Obeservation Point Drive, ending up at where else? Observation Point. :-) We took pics, then left OP and headed back to Breckenridge, retracing our route. There's only one way, unless we go north through Graham but that's much long way home. We might do that next time. Everyone had a wonderful time, the weather was absolutely perfect and for all those bikes running down the road together, there were zero problems. We must have been a sight to see. There were even smiles, waves and thumbs up, from passing vehicles. If you'd like to see a few photos, they are here: http://www.txvets.org/march5.htm I'm looking forward to our next big ride. And today was so nice, I just rode for the fun of it and well, to go order parts for our cage that I'm thinking of selling, to buy another bike. Never can have too many bikes. :-) There's nothing better, than a day spent on two wheels. Ride safe,
