    Suspect you'd be flogging a dead horse[1]

In theory it should be less if you turn up in person and throw yourself
upon their mercy. Acts of contrition count in your favour and all that
    shit. In theory.

Or not ride in bus lanes.....

But seriously - was it in force at the time - half the bus lanes on my route
to Nottm are 'time-related' so maybe you were done when the lane wasn't in
force? Other than that I'd refer you to the statement above - is the 5 mins
that using the bus lane will save you worth £35 + the fine (ie. can you earn
that much in the time saved?) or should you just stick to filtering as per
normal, keeping on the right side of the bus lane?

Plus you'll be able to pay the fine at a pound a week or something.

I think that's only worthwhile when it's fairly serious.

In principle, riding in a bus lane is about as serious as a parking
    ticket. I'd pay up now.

Obviously that occured shortly after I realised I was hitting space
faster than I could read and marked thread deleted.

    Naah.

    That would be flagonecrobeastiality.

Third door down, on the left. That's it - the one with the pool of
strange-smelling dark fluid seeping out under the door ...

I seem to remember the financial form saying that the Magistrates were
*required* to take into account your financial circustances when deciding
    the fine.

I must admit to stifling a snigger when I paid the fine on the spot with my
    Platinum Card :)

For one of those I would plead guilty by post - theres really no point
in going in along in person.

Thanks for the advice - I'll do that. I'll post back later in the
month to let you know the fine.

    Move to Bristol.

We may have the schtoopidest no-brain road planners in the UK, but at
least bikes can legally use Bus lanes !

I was working at the time of the offence and also when I pleaded guilty
by post. I'm not working now though and have bugger all to live on. This
might get me a greatly reduced fine but isn't much cop if I get banned
for longer. I need to get working again to pay the debts that amount to
the total of what seems like the third world debt.

So has the case actually been heard yet? If not then bung them another
grovelling letter and tell them that if necessary you will come down and
tell them in person as you have plenty of time.

Don't think it works like that. The ban and the fine amount don't go up and
down on a sliding scale or anything, it's much more at the discretion ofthe
    magistrates.

Contact the court *now*, ie before your hearing, explain your circumstances
and ask for a replacement financial form. The magistrates will only ever see
the final one you submit, so you may as well go for it.
