Adrian () gurgled happily, sounding much like they
    were saying :
    charger, even.

Erm. This might be a bit obvious and therefore completely daft but...

What about taking 3 or 4 phone batteries with you?

You can pick (most) types of phone battery up dirt cheap on e-bay.
eg: Motorola Razr for less than a fiver.

Woolworths have a wind up power LED torch with mobile phone charging
connectors, only recognaised a couple of them but there seemed to be
    enough. About £7

hmm... I think the organisors are pretty foolish if they're saying "have
a fully charged mobile with you" if they haven't checked for coverage,
with all mobiles on all networks...

It's a radio access mechanism, it isn't suitable for use as an emergency
system (IMO); sure it can help but it should *not* be the sole means of
raising help since the risks of it not working (due to the design not
covering emergency use/coverage) are relatively high.

Got caught with this in the case of a cigarette lighter adapter.
All of the real Nokia chargers that I have seen are marked
    with their output voltage.
    Old 10V.
    New 3.6V.

In my case 10V charger did not charge (or damage) 3.6 V phone.
The one I have here says 3.7V, which is not significantly different
    from 3.6 in this case.

My guess is that a 3-4 year old phone will be 3.6V.

That's a fair point and the organisers are running sweeper motorcycles
and insisting that all riders stop to help any other rider with
problems. You can be disqualified if you don't.

And it's not like we're totally in the middle of nowhere. Plenty of
    famrs and the like around.

    "Would you like our eiderdown?"

    "Squeal like a piggy."

    All of the above.

Maplin are doing a four into one adapter for car sockets at the moment for
£4.99. All you would need is 75 cars and you're all sorted :)

This would be a great plan, not just for this but a fair few other
    things.

Unfortunately we all have to leave our cars at the initial campsite
and won't see them till a week later.

Unless you're one of the lucky few who can afford a support crew.

If this for emergency use in case of an accident were the rider is
unable to operate a phone, why not use those beacons that skiers use
    instead?
