Suggested replacement for a Shoei XR800

Went to the local bike emporium this morning to try on a few new Shoeis
as a replacement for my XR800 (which I wore yesterday when I did my
Eddie The Eagle impersonation). Unfortunately both the XR900 and XR1000
appear to not fit as well as the XR800. Anybody had this problem
before? Also, can someone recommend other helmets to look for for
    'Shoeiheads'?

You know the answer here is going to be Uvex.
Nothing fits quite like an Arai IMHO though.

I hade that problem in reverse. Never got on with Shoei lids, but
I needed a new lid and when I was in the Fatherland last week I went
out and tried numerous ones. THe bloke in the shop suggested I tried
the XR1000, but I waived him off saying they ain't my shape. To
which he replied that Shoei have changed the shape with this model.
Tried it on and it fitted just perfectly. Had a test ride with it
and was very convinced, thus bought it [1].

I had an XR800, which was 'damaged' during my recent accident. And it
was even more damaged after I took it off and chucked it down the road.

I just bought a Caberg "Justissimo", flip front, tinted internal visor,
etc., for GBP140 - don't know how good a price that is, but it seems
good to me, and it fits.

Don't they make the X-Ceed any more?

Probably, although unfortunately Moore's in Hemel H. doesn't list Uvex
    any more on their website.

That said, I'll probably try the new BMW Sportintegral and/or the new
Schuberth S1, as they're supposed to be just about the quietest
helmets available at the moment according to some German tests I just
    read.
    Not my Shoei head.

    Don't want another flip-up lid (I've got an X-Lite which don't like
that much as it's rather loud), but thanks anyway.

Doesn't look like it, plus it appears that I have an XR800 head, which
doesn't fit the new Shoeis that well anymore.

I replaced mine with a Shoei Raid and it's suited me fine.

Tried that as well, it's a somewhat better fit but not quite 'there',
either. I'll see if I can track down a Uvex Wing RS and also want to
try a Schuberth S1 or BMW SportIntegral, both supposedly very good and
appearantly the quietest helmet on the market according to some German
    tests.

The S1 also appeals (if it fits) due to the integrated sun visor, but
the reports of the anti-fog coating coming off the visor are kinda
annoying. Mind ewe, they'll replace the visor free if that happens.

The BMW helmet is unbelievably shite. Poor quality interior material and
build, plus the visor pivot design is archaic. It really isn't worth
anywhere near what they are asking.

Have you actually called Moores on the phone[1] to see if they still
have stocks of Uvex lids. I'm sure they still have. Failing that, try
giving On Yer Bike in Aylesbury a call.

[1] A bit 1980s/90s but it gets results. Imo the internet hasn't quite
caught up with direct communication technology yet.

I can confirm that the BMW system helmet is indeed Poo. The new £800 carbon
fibre super lite thing is quite trick though.

That's the one I don't like. Nowhere near as good as it should be for
    that price tag.

Pardon? Eight. Hundred. Pounds. For a helmet?

I know they say "how much is your head worth?", but FFS!

Well there is very little in it for the money, sure! Pure gimmick like
M-style leather jackets. It is incredibly light to pick up but there is
nothing smart in the visor design etc.
Sadly BMW have lost their way in the bike and car world. They need to go
through an early 1990's Porsche style re-birth. For a start they need to
stop being a mass market producer and dump the volume and most of the low
    cost 3's & 5's as per the 924 etc.

Well, I've only seen the reviews, not the helmet in the flesh.
Actually I'm keener on on the Schuberth anyway, trouble is that
they're both from the same manufacturer.
Used ye Olde Tecknology today and yes, Moores still got a few Wing RSs
in what they think would be the correct size. Best of all, they're now
reduced to 200 squids, which makes them rather appealing. Oh well,
I'll know on Saturday how well they'll fit.

Remind me again - they should come with both a clear and a tinted
    visor, correct?
Not if they close at 5pm and you try to phone them at 5.30...

Went down to Infinity M/Cs today to check it out, amongst loads of
other helmets - I tried on just about every higher-quality helmet they
    stocked in my size.

Two actually fitted :-(. One was the above mentioned Schubert which
fitted really well although I'm kinda worried that it may have been a
smidgen too lose, but then again it might have been just perfect as it
was. The other one was the Arai Corsair, which happens to be even more
    expensive...
I bloody well hope it'll fit, otherwise there'll be no beer money left
for the next couple of months. WTF do I have to have such an expensive
    head?

  19. It's German - quality design but a bit over engineered.

  20. So, the box the helmet comes in would fit best then?
