I don't really think someone without a bike is in any sort of position
    to comment.

Care to enlighten us as to what is shit about the VFR, in your opinion,
    then?

I can think of one thing. Linked brakes, which aren't what you need at
    times.

Apart from that, there's not much wrong with them.

Good Lord no, almost anywhere north of the A127 and east of the A12 is a
fine place, except for Hockley and surrounding areas.

I plan to be at Snetters this weekend.

I'm just curious as to why it's fashionable to knock the VFR, that's
    all.

So take the rear off, take it somewhere and get it a new tyre, then
ride the bike somewhere to have the front done.

Yeah but that would involve Steve riding the bike wouldn't it?

Goo point, well made. And he'd have to live with the shame of the
dealer knowing he rides a VFR.

Last time I did that (before I got myself some paddock stands) I used
some tiedowns front and back to secure it to the rafters of the
    garage.

    Chris Reece says...
Sticking a bike on its side after removing oil and battery used to be
my preferred method of engine removal. It was easier to lift the frame
    off the engine that way.

  14. I love 'em. One of the few Jap bikes with soul, and with *real*
engineering excellence (later models without the gear drive to the cams
are a different kettle of fish).

Never ridden a linked brake one and don't really desire to.

Otherwise, off the top of my head, I can't think of a Japanese bike made
in the last 20 years which exudes so much (cue over-worked word...)
    quality.

That's not bad. Bike Treads in Swindon want £220 for a pair of Diablos
for the Z1000. I suppose the tyres might be a bit more expensive -
    especially the rear, as it's a 190.

Where are ProTyre? I might give them a try next time.

MG Tyres have given me a fitted price on Conti Road Attacks of £170.

That's if I go to them - but they're only in Newport, so it's only 20
    mins down the road.

Do the one in Gloucester do a full, ride-in fitting service?

Yup, even when it involved removing the rear snail from the Drifter to get
    at the wheel.

The rear on the VFR is a 170, but from what I remember the cost for
the 180 rears that went onto the ZRX wasn't significantly greater.
    27 Church Road, Bristol, BS5 9JJ - about 5 minutes from the M32.
There's a branch in Gloucester at 324 Bristol Road which may be more
convenient for you, but I don't know if they have bike tyre fitting
    facilities.
