In the absence of any form of paddock stand, is there any way to remove
both wheels from my VFR at the same time?

Obviously it has a centre stand and I also have a trolley jack, if that
    helps.

  2. remove back wheel, replace wheel spindle prop with axle stand, remove
front wheel, replace spindle and use trolley jack to make sure it is
    held up ok

Hmmm, how does this work for a single sided swingarm?

    Alternatively - any ideas of somewhere cheap-ish that'll do a ride-in,
    ride-out service around these parts?

Not strictly "around these parts" for you, but ProTyre in Bristol put
a pair of Pirelli Diablos onto the VFR for £197, RIRO.

Worth a thought, but the rear is very marginal. Riding to Bristol could
see it down to the canvas. Erk!

If nothing else, you can gauge how expensive tyre places are closer to
home. FWIW, FWR charge £179 for a pair of Diablos, so £18 for RIRO is
    money well spent.

  7. Not-so-silly response - if you've got a spare front wheel off a smaller
bike, just shove the spindle through it and through the forks, and it'll
hold the thing off the deck while you take the wheels to be re-tyred.

  9. Ahh ok, use the front end bit and put the axle stands under the
    footpegs then

Heh. I *could* drag the MZ out for that purpose.

But I'm going to phone this lot tomorrow:

No need to support the wheelless rear end when it's on the centre
stand, so then just take the front off and plonk the forks down on a
block of wood, or stick the spindle back in and rest it on your jack.
    Easy, done it loads.

Have you tried MG tyres for a ride nowhere approach to tyre
    supply/fitting?

Yeah, I remembered your MG Tyres suggestion from a couple of weeks ago.

I think they'll be getting my money, so long as they don't take the piss
    on prices.

  16. Loosen front and rear wheel fixings.
Put it on the centre stand.
    take off the rear wheel.
Jack up under the engine with suitable blocks.
    Remove front wheel.
Don't let the cat sit on the back of the bike.

Not necessary, just stick something solid under the swing arm
after removing the rear wheel. (The bike will rest on this,
lightly, and the center stand after the front wheel is removed)
Trolley jack or whatever is handy. No real need to replace spindle,
just push something (not too high, that would unload the center
stand) under one of the fork legs.

A smart move when doing this sort of job is to secure the center
stand in the down position with some wire or rope. Pulling the bike
of the stand when trying to undo/tighten a nut is damn irritating.

I had both wheels off the Wing using that arrangement last winter.

    Looked *well* dodgy, mind.

Easy. Take it to almost any bike dealer and they'll do it for you. Why
anybody bothers taking their wheels off to save a tenner or so for the
dealer to do it is beyond me.

Bike on centre stand > remove front wheel > use trolley jack to take
weight of front wheel spindle > remove rear.

IME most bikes are nose heavy even without the front wheel, if yours
isn't you'll have to employ the services of a glamorous assistant.
