Just might provoke a stalling incident though.

  2. No, the stalling was just me being cack-handed.

  3. Well, I've checked everything I can and taken it for a 55-mile run and
    it's A-OK.

I know it sounds odd, but it's the only thing that seems to explain it.
I have seen the same symptoms. The strangest part is that if you leave
it alone for a few minutes then the engine spins freely and fires-up.

I guess it's possible there's some 'prevent engine damage' defence mode
where the ECU reduces then stops the magic smoke if a sensor reports
something way out of range. Seems unlikely that a warm spring day in
the UK would upset it that much though.

My thoughts too. I'd travelled maybe six or seven miles through light
traffic, and the temp gauge wasn't reading anything untoward.

Anyway, it seems perfectly OK now, so for the moment I'll put it down
    to the gremlins.

    no it's not.

Demonic possession would also "explain" it.

The web seems to have similar hot starting stories, none with demonic
    possession that I can see.

Actually, those links pretty much recount what I experienced.
    Hmmmmm.....

That particular bug is programmed to re-occur at 78.5 mile intervals,
    of course.

I have learnt to live with it. Do not fall into the trap of keeping the
starter button depressed. Walk away from it and just give it a moment to
sort itself out or you will end-up bumping it.
