Strange tax disk?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Harry Bloomfield, Apr 18, 2004.

  1. Hi,

As some of you may know, I bought a GPZ 500s 10 days ago. I'm rather
puzzled by the old (07-2000) tax disk which was in the disk holder when
    I got it....

The actual disk had been laminated in plastic, I assume to keep it dry,
but the details had been filled in AFTER it had been laminated. Would a
post office allow the customer to take the blank disk away, laminate
it, then take it back for the details to be entered?

It was marked 6 months, £33. I thought it was only possible to purchase
    12 month for £45, for a less than 600cc?

The tax amounts changed at some point early last year I think.

  3. Sounds very odd to me, Harry - I can't imagine the PO clerk doing anything
other than writing directly on the actual paper disc.

Actually, I'd never though of laminating my tax discs - would save me having
to seal the holder with silcone rubber, 'cos the buggers always seem to
    leak.

Let them leak. The disc goes mouldy/rusty, it gets changed every 12
    months or so.
