    ancient:

on my way home from work the other day, I parked outside Tescos and
went in to buy a few bits and pieces.

When I came out, parked next to my bike was something extremely weird
    - it looked like an old gold-coloured Raleigh Shopper with a small
petrol engine bolted on to it, and had numberplates and everything. A
bit of a closer look revealed that it was indeed made by Raleigh, and
it was something called a "Wisp". I mean, I'm aware of the concept of
mopeds, but I'd never actually seen one quite so crap looking -
really, this thing was just a bicycle with an engine - fucking
    madness! A quick google:

    Yup, exactly like this:

    modern:

This morning, I got the train/tube to work, and as I was walking to
the station, I saw something odd next to a lamppost. At first, my
brain couldn't work out exactly what I was seeing - it looked like
someone had ripped off a car door, and leant it against a wheelie bin
with a couple of planks piled on top, and thrown a couple of scooter
wheels on the ground beside it. Further investigation revealed it to
    be one of these:

ugly as fucking ****. Why, Ged, why?

Wow, I think 'design' and more importantly 'style' was completely missed off
    the brief.

    [snip]

I've seen a BMW C1 (with similar feelings), but wow, a whole cabriolet
    effect with folding roof too.

But 'cheap' was defintely well up there. These used to be quite common
    when I was a kid.

The Benelli roof's purely for cosmetic and rain-proofing too - so you get to
look like a prize tit, but with none of the "safety benefits" of the C1.
    Legend.

    Of Raleigh Wisp...
Common as muck round where I was - they were so crap no-one would nick
them. Mind you, the type of folk who owned them dreamed someday of
    having a C90 stepthrough.
