Strange and mildly enchanting experience...

  1. No police this morning, firstly, which was nice.

On the way home from work, travelling West, I noticed that ahead of
me, the street lights were turning off in a cascadesque sequence as I
rode towards them, seemingly in accordance with the progress of the
sunrise. It had never occurred to me that they would do that. Well,
not on so local a scale at least...

Made me smile for some reason.

I've had that on a couple of dawn trips to uni to get an assignment in
before the deadliine - made me smile too.

Aargh! 3 large-ish assignments due in tomorrow for me. Luckily I've
read the entire contents of the Internet already so I can fully
    concentrate on working... oh

Dissertation done and dusted, leaving just one more assignment (1500
words on glacial refugia in the Quaternary) and three exams, then it's
all over. It's been an interesting 4 years!

The 25th of May is going to feel very strange indeed, waking up with
no assignments or revision to do.

    Fantastic. Geography?

My course goes allllll the way to the end of Sept - but no more exams,
thank ****, just a "thesis" (which is more of a dissertation really -
15 Kwords). I really need to apply for jobs pretty soon or I'm going
to be screwed when I finish. Not that I really feel like it at the
    moment!

Biological conservation and physical geography (none of that strange
    human geography stuff).
    What are you doing?
I'm planning to take the summer off to spend some time with the
family. They've all been horribly neglected over the past few months
as I've become ever more involved in my dissertation and final
    assignments.

Hmm. Sounds like the interesting part - we've been doing some
environmental modelling, which I guess might bear some resemblance to
the conservation stuff. Quite enjoyable, though I got the piss taken
out of me for living next to the most polluted measuring station we
    looked at.
MPH - masters in public health - I've worked on health development
projects for a few years but needed something on my CV to get into the
interesting jobs. The course has varied between "fucking hard" for the
epidemiology/stats bits to "fairly straightforward" for the more
social-sciencey bits, but there's been some of the best teaching I've
ever had. I'm really pleased I went back to Uni though, despite being
    incredibly poor at the moment.
That sounds great (jealous!). Don't think we're supposed to be taking
much time off as it's only a 1-yr course, and a slightly wanky
university so they expect you to be super-dedicated. Not really my
    natural state TBH.

Good luck with the exams. Still lots of spoddy types here revising in
the library, bizarre. **** I wish I'd bothered doing essay this
    sooner.

What? You mean that others don't see this kind of thing when they don't
work shifts? Admittedly, I haven't left work at dawn in the last couple
of years but I'm sure I'll end up doing it again sooner or later.
