Hi all, About six weeks ago, a mate of mine told me that if I were to write to VicRoads and explain how big built I am (read fat bastard), they might remove the 260cc restriction on my probationary licence on safety grounds. I asked a few other mates and they all said VicRoads would do it, so I wrote the letter. I don't really think my current bike is unsafe, but though I'd give it a shot anyway. Since then, I went looking for through the bike shops in the city and got talking to a HD dealer, who got me interested in an anniversary fat boy. He tells me they're getting pretty rare, and after ringing around, it turns out they are pretty rare, so I bought one, thinking that if VicRoads rejected my request, I'll just warehouse the bike for nine months. Well, VicRoads rejected my application, stating that there is no provision in the Act for removing the restriction. Based on that, I doubt I have an avenue for appeal, so I'm looking to warehouse the bike for the next nine months. Anyone had any experience warehousing motorcycles for this length of time? Anyone know of a company that does it in Melbourne? Anything I should do to prep the bike first? And before anyone volunteers, no, you can't look after it for me (it's a Harley, why would you want to?). Additionally, out of interest, does anyone know if the transport act in states other than Victoria allow for restriction removal? Thanks in advance. Storage places such as Storage King can help. Some actually have purpose built motorcycle sized garages. Check them out. Motorcycle transporter companies might be able to help with storage also. Google for some european websites on how to prep a bike for winter. Nev.. '02 CBR1100XX #2
Kennards Self Storage do motorcycle storage If you want to use them - then they are about $150/month After forking out this for the bike, I can't see this as too much of a problem. go to this site for more info http://www.kss.com.au/dev/frame_motorbike.html Daron
'Cause we don't like yer kind 'round 'ere, Harley-Boy!! (because you can ride SOME big bikes on your P licence in the ACT... I doubt a Fat Boy would be OK though)
doubt a Fat Boy would be OK though) Virtually all the 1340s are on the list, Clem (FatBoys included). The 1450s might not make it though. Al
About six weeks ago, a mate of mine told me that if I were to write to VicRoads and explain how big built I am (read fat bastard), they might remove the 260cc restriction on my probationary licence on safety grounds. I have a bridge forsale, its located in sydney and takes a lot of revenue... And also some land.. really good land... wanna buy it?
Fly up to Queensland do a 4 day Q Ride course and get your licence here, shout Clem and I a curry and a few beers, go back to Melbourne and ride that Hog. Boxer
Doesn't help, I'm afraid. You need to have held a full car licence for three years, and I haven't. I'd gladly shout you a curry if you can come up with a solution that gets me riding the fat boy (I even know a good curry house in West End), but I think warehousing it is gonna be my only option. Thanks anyway. JP 2003 VN250 (stolen & found) --> 2003 FLSTFI (not so soon)
Fuckwit Who is the one with a bike he cant ride?? Who is the fool who runs out spending $$ with no fuckin idea? No License for the slug he bought? Who has spent **** knows how much on a slow ill handling shitbox, and calls me a fuckwit? LMAO
Bloody hell! I sit corrected. (But we still don't like his Harley ridin', toilet-paper usin' kind 'round these parts!)
I bought the bike based on the fact that they were becoming hard to get, and would have done even if I had never heard of the possibility of restriction removal. I had every idea. I bought the bike knowing full well that I probably will not be able to ride it for nine months. Again, the bike is an anniversary edition with a fixed allocation being built this year. Had I waited until I was licenced to ride it, the bike would no longer be available. It was hardly a spare of the moment decision, but it was a decision none the less, and one I'm quite happy with even though I can't ride it. Not everyone wants a high performance bike. This is aus.motorcycles, not aus.motorcycles.except.for.slow.ill.handling.shitboxes, so by all means LYAO - empty buckets, dickhead! The fuckwit comment still stands, as you've done nothing to warrant an apology. I received some bad information. I wrote a letter. I was informed the information was incorrect. None of this affects the decision to buy the bike, that would have always happened. How is this like buying the SHB? Toolshine! JP 2003 VN250 (stolen & found) --> 2003 FLSTFI (not so soon)
I don't think I did act rashly, Moike. I knew there was a good chance I wouldn't be riding the fat boy until I was fully licenced. I don't have a problem with that. Had I never heard that there was a possibility that I could get my restriction removed, I would have still bought the bike. Like I've just explained to The Greatest Fuckwit, it's an anniversary edition bike that would not be available when I became fully licensed. Another thought... Harley dealers always seem to have showrooms full of bikes with sold stickers on them. I guess by selling a bike then leaving it on the showroom floor it means that's a lot of money they don't have to have tied up in floor stock. Maybe the dealer would be happy to leave it in their showroom for some [all] of the time. Nev.. '02 CBR1100XX #2
Not everyone wants a high performance bike. This is aus.motorcycles, not If that was the case, i think about 1/3rd of the people here including myself would have to be ousted! Mike.S
Hey; you don't get "the works" on the first date! Clem (And calling me "the fat boy" is really insulting!)
