gixxer yum[1], brakes noo, fixum how?

    ?
    a) Change BF - 1 year old.
    b) Unfuck pistons - not sure if they are fucked - how do you tell? [2]
    c) Add braided hoses - seems to be most popular mod - does it make a
    real difference?
    d) Change pads.
    e) Add wavey disks.
    f) Something else.

    All abuse gratefully received.

Try describing the symptoms and their severity - in English - and
perhaps somebody might know the answer.

Tokico brakes. They shit. Live with it.

Seriously, EBC HH make a nice difference, as do braided hoses. Other
than that just make sure they clean, all the seals are ok etc.

I always knew they're weren't the best after a test ride on the 636,
but things have got downright dangerous now.
    Cheers.

    Symptoms:

    a) Increasingly greater effort required at lever to get any kind of
    breaking effect.
    b) Lever travel does not seem to have increased significantly.
    c) A couple of sharp applications of brake initially used to improve
braking performance but now has very little effect.
    d) I don't think the disks are worn, there's no sign of a ridge if you
run a thumb nail across the surface.

You must be joking - I used to enjoy riding a pushbike on the road,
    now it feels suicidal.

    Pads are glazed, I reckon.

New pads required, braided hoses may help too.

Carbon Lorraine SBK3 from Hein Gericke at ~54 quid for both pairs.

Are the pads fucked?? either worn out so your braking on the metal.. tho you
should hear it if it's that bad,
or the pads could be glazed to hell, or the linings gone hard... the sharp
aplications of the brakes to get things working make me think that,

Cheapest things to do.. whip the pads out and have a look see i'd have
thought, might be able to do a temporary fix with some emery paper if they
are glazed to hell, but it wont last long,

remember i last worked on a bike 10 years ago mind, so don't believe all i
    say.

Sounds like the problem is glazed pads. If you don't hear from me
    again it was something else.

I'd suggest EBC HH over the Carbone Lorraine ones. I used both on my
GSXR750 and the EBC were noticeably better.

Oh, was he talking about the 4 pots? I had the 6 pots on my 750 as
well as being on the Thou. Oddly the 4's are supposed to be better.

They (the Tokico 6-Pots) were competent enough on team-ukrm's race bike
    last season.

I think definitions of 'shit' vary somewhat.

I've read (somewhere) that the EBC HH give the disks a hard time and can
result in warped disks/worn out disks. Don't know if there's any truth
    in this.

I've used the HH pads and was impressed but I don't think I'm that
    demanding a rider.

It was the 4 piston jobbies on my K1 600 that I was on about. I never
felt entirely confident with them from new, but you could squeeze a
stoppie out of them so I suppose they were good enough. But now, even
a tendon snapping handful doesn't get close to lifting the back wheel.

Never had any problems and I've used them on all bikes since the SV in
2000. They're not in the Thou yet, but that's because it's still on
    it's original pads.
    Likewise and likewise.

Hmm, might look to change. The OP did say he had a K series, a K1
IIRC. I just assumed that they had 6 pots like my WW.
They do look the bits you've got to admit. But the 98 WW had the same
    6 pots in black.
