I doubt it would be a disaster, but I think you can see why it would be
very much an uphill battle to gain much support for *really* pursuing
tougher licensing. Everyone thinks it's a great idea in casual
conversation, but I think it starts looking different the more serious you
    get.

the rules... the trend is more safety not less in our lives... get use
to it or fight it by wearing your helmet...

  3. Hiya Dan...
Sorry I was late coming into San Luis Obispo... I missed you and seeing
your pristine RC30... I forgot to pack your phone number as well... it
would have been fun sampling each others ride...

Realistically speaking... the AMA effectively used fear like a club and
perverted Senator Danforths bill "limit on horsepower" into a "ban on
bullet bikes" all in the good name of increased membership...
consequently a lot of riders feel for it...

RCAF? RAf? I've flown in a Royal Family/ Dash 7, and I've sat in an
Alaska based Otter Seaplane (didn't get to fly in it), but I've never been
    in a T-10.
You always have my endorsement on your fine work.
Particularly today. Beautiful day, great weather. It would be a good
    day for a ride.....

  7. Thanks Tim... you know no one will remember any of this 50 years from
now under the Federal Mandated helmet law... riders growing up under the
law then will feel just as free... donning full protective gear... as I
    do now...

  9. You would appear to be less of a troll, Larry, if you would actually support
your position rather than posting this kind of crap. You could start by
answering the direct questions I asked you two days ago. I expect that
you won't answer, though, because I have come to believe that you much
    prefer trolling to honest debate.

Class envy is nothing new, as HHH illustrates. And I suspect that the
self-made/nouveau riches get more than their share of abuse since they
haven't learned the lessons of inconspicuous consumption.

    You should live so long! ;-}

[NB: You'd given me the capsule version of your biography some years
back, so I wasn't surprised at its content. But publishing it is
another matter. As is my public reply, but I couldn't find anything
    that looked like a valid e-mail in your post.}

Not a problem for me: you share your surname with two of my early
physicians in SF (père and fils).

Hope your willingness to dialog here presages a willingness to share
    the road again.

I think you're right; they will *feel* just as free. The only difference is...
they won't be. "Not-free == free" will be the Orwellian norm in 50 years.

If your bike needs as long to come to a complete stop or is as hard to
steer around an obstacle as a Winnebago you should have it serviced.

In Italy noone cares much how fast you drive (out of town) unless you
    cause an accident. It works.

In Germany there is no speed limit on more than 50% of freeway miles.
People travel at 120+ mph. Accident rates are _much_ lower than on US
    freeways.

Speed limits don't save lives (except in town where pedestrians and kids
are around), driving within the envelope of your and your vehicle's
capabilities and the road conditions does.

Maybe some folks see things differently but to me, having to drive 30 mph on a
wide open highway is a heck of a lot more inconvenient than wearing a helmet.

Unlike a car, when a motorcyclist gets into an accident, even a slow speed one,
he almost always falls and risks hitting his head.
