stereotyping and speeding fines

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Miles Reading, Feb 6, 2004.

  1. In the back pages of this weeks MCN is an advert for Motorhead gigs in
the UK, al of us being motorcyclists, we all like motorhead right?

    all together now....

    <vague lyrics>

dah dah dah dah dah dah rules
    gambling is for fools
Thats the way I like it baby
I dont want to live forever,

The ace of spades, the ace of spades

    </vague lyrics>

Also I notice the visionary david blunkett is contemplating less
points for minor speeding offences. Hoorah you cry, except instead of
being flashed 4 times and losing you license, you can now be flashed
12 times before losing your license.

Well done government, now you can make 3 times the amount of money
    shafting vehicle owners.

Moral : Dont speed, burglary is a much more profitable business and
the government in true monopoly style give you a "get out of jail
    free" for your first offence.

So what, I quite like it but it aint my normal choice of Musak. I may be
tempted to give it a go so advertising ois working.
I thought they wanted to make it 2 points hence 6X before you lose the
license. Still a nice money making scam.
Yeh, that is until you choose Tony Martin or one of his mates houses
Then that loud bang aint the door shutting behind you.

Yes you will actually... and it's a bit of a monster too.
Someone less pleasant and amiable will be along shortly to give you some
sort of disparaging number I am sure.

Anybody else spot the quote of the week on the BBC New site ... "In this
country we take an exposed breast very seriously."

  9. The seminal Motorhead oeuvre is arguably "Lost Johnnie" from the
1974 Hawkwind album "Hall of the Mountain Grill". The track
protrudes as an inflamed digit from the psychedelia of the rest
of the album and its raw energy predates the official launch of
Motorhead by three years. I recall thinking in 1977 that Lemmy's
new band, after he was sacked from Hawkwind, wouldn't last.
It just goes to show how wrong you can be.

    Niiiice:
You only get a single chance
    The rules are very plain
The truth is well concealed inside
    The details of the game
    You can see it coming
You can hear it from afar
    It's pale and it flickers
    Like a faded movie star

And up there in the castle
They're trying to make us scream
By sticking thumb tacks in her flesh
    And cancelling the dream
    Can you find the Valium?
    Can you bring it soon?
    Lost Johnny's out there
    Baying at the Moon

The time has come for you to choose
    You'd better get it right
Berlin girls with sharp white teeth
    Are waiting in the night
But you 'oughta really get some
    It surely can't be hard
    There's always trouble waiting
When you leave your own back yard

    And underneath the city
    The alligators sing
About how the puppets cannot dance
    Since someone cut the strings

    Run and get the morphine
For God's sake make it brief
    Lost Johnny's out there
    Looking for relief

    Now Simon looks so evil
And you know he really tries
But every time he makes a play
    That vital number dies
    And Sally buys her underwear
From a store where no-one goes
She makes it big in photographs
On the strength of what she shows

And here inside the waiting room
    The radio still screams
    And we're all taking Tuenol
    To murder our young dreams

Run and fetch your credit card
    Try to make it quick
    Lost Johnny's out there
    Trying to turn a trick

It pops up again on Master of the Universe and a few other albums, tis a
goodly number... now where did I put those CDs :)
Mind, I'd argue that Iron Horse would be the more appropriate number herein.

I prefer "The Watcher". I realise the original Hawkwind version is
mostly (badly-played) acoustic and fairly gentle, but once it gets the
full 'Head treatment it really comes into its own.

    (You did say "arguably".)

  13. Welcome to pseuds' corner.

The "Doremi Fasol Latido" version of "The Watcher" is indeed a gentle
acoustic number, apparently influenced by CS Lewis or Arthur C Clarke.
I had not noticed that Lemmy wrote it and can't hear anything of the
Motorhead style in it. I must look out for the later version of
    which you wrote.

Any idea what original copies of the first Motorhead album and single,
only played once, would be worth on ebay ?
Is there gold in them thar hifi cabinets?

Eh? I thought this was the UST club?
It's on "Motorhead", as is "Lost Johnny". Probably on some other albums
as well, but I can't be arsed to either go downstairs and check, or dig
    out the MP3 discography.
    *shrug*

Is there still much of a market for vinyl these days?
No idea. Apparently the 'leather' sleeved version of "No Remorse" used
to be worth upwards of GBP20, but I can't imagine it'd fetch such a
    dizzy price these days.

If only they'd done a cover of "Grandma we love you".

    That would have _rocked_!

  20. Thanks. I just listened to "Motorhead" for the first time in 27 years.
    It's still not very good.
