seems strange that the title is over mid year? or is it July to July
    these days?

    Stauffer wins Aust Superbike title

    July 1, 2007 - 8:19PM

Yamaha Racing Team rider Jamie Stauffer claimed his second consecutive
Australian Superbike Championship after taking both round wins in
front of a record crowd for a round of the national series of 12,500
at the double-header sixth and seventh rounds of the series at
    Queensland Raceway this weekend.

After extending his series lead to 61 points after taking the overall
honours in Saturday's sixth round, Stauffer went into Sunday's seventh
round to wrap up back to back Australian championships with one round
    still to run.

Making his intentions clear, the 28-year-old set a new superbike lap
record of 1:09.145 seconds for the 3.12km Ipswich circuit on the fifth
lap in Sunday's opening 16 lap race, a time 1.8583 seconds below Garth
    Tander's V8 Supercar lap record.

Stauffer then engaged in a two-man, 270kmh war with his Yamaha
team-mate - and elder brother Dan - before pulling off a forceful last
corner, last lap pass to take a 0.280 second victory and extend his
    championship lead to 66 points.

Needing only a seventh place in the second of Sunday's two races,
Stauffer led the early laps before being passed by Team Suzuki rider
Craig Coxhell, the latter going on to record a 5.019 second win whilst
Stauffer settled for a safe second place and the 2007 Superbike title.

"I thought of trying to go with Craig when he came by, but I also had
a championship at stake," said Stauffer.

"I don't like coming second in any race, but in this case two overall
round wins, a new lap record and the 2007 championship isn't a bad
    weekend's work. I'm happy."

Coxhell also took a win off Stauffer in the first of Saturday's two
races, but was unable to match the consistent pace of the Yamaha rider
over the duration of the four-race weekend.

"My bikes got a lot of horse power and a high top speed, but trying to
hang onto it over the bumps at this circuit is the hardest thing,"
said 24-year-old Coxhell, the 2003 Australian Superbike champion.

"I got a bad start in Sunday's first race and lost too much time in
the early laps. I should be happy with two wins out of four races, but
it could have been a lot better.

"Congratulations to Jamie on his championship - he rode well and
    deserved his wins this weekend."

More impressive is Glenn Scott in the 125cc Australian Championship.

1st Year riding a road bike, 15yo, still a "D" Grader. Only got on a road
bike in January where he destroyed a 125 at Eastern Creek on the 1st outing.

Leading the 125cc Championship by a long shot.
He is supported by his elder siblings after both parents were killed in a
    motorcycle accident in 2003

Heads off to europe for the Spanish Championship this month assisted by Team
27 ( Stoner) to learn more about the european circuits.

    Good on him!
Candy used to be pretty quick too. I didn't realise she had a younger
    brother.
Thanks for the heads-up Daron. I had my head up my arse all last month and
I didn't realise it was time for the Aus Supers to come to town so I missed
the chance to go out to "the paperclip" and watch the show.
Hopefully I might see some of them at PI in October.
(That's if I can get Betty to stop following me around looking at my bum!)
